Taric Redesign

While this is cool and would probably make for a pretty good Taric rework, I don't want to see him remade into this.

Why?

Because he reminds me of the old League of Legends. Where champions blended serious themes and abilities with just the slightest brush of silliness and absurdity. You can still see this in old champions who haven't been revamped (Shaco, Alistar, Corki, Teemo), where they come across as heroic or powerful most of the times, but what also shines through are the little quirks in their personalities that make them uniquely unique.

Taric has this quality right now. He's heavily grounded in a paladin archetype, with his armor, shield, willingness to protect allies, and of course being SaF (Suave as Fruitloops). But that's not who Taric is, he has this grand over the top flamboyantly badass quality to him that really defines him as being Taric.

Any rework that attempts to update Taric should keep this in mind, Taric has a legacy and that's about all he has left now, so don't take that away, pretty please.

EDIT: I realized I was a bit vague on how this connected with the image OP put up. Don't get me wrong, it's wonderful artwork, and if this was used as inspiration to update Taric, that'd be wonderful. The style of the artwork gives off the impression though that he's far too serious, which is something Taric should never be.

I feel I'm int the minority when I say that, yes I really do want Taric to be a much more serious character. Sure he can still have his joke about outrageous gems and whatnot, but it should just be a joke. It shouldn't be what defines him as a character. In his current lore it says he's a kind man who values protecting people and healing them. What most people see these days (no thanks to various memes) is a creepy stalker guy who says the word outrageous a lot and has a fetish for Gems. He could be sooooooooooooooooo much more though.

Beautiful and homosexual are both okay. Just would prefer the asian's Taric splash art idea instead of NA's. I don't want him to sound and look like he's in his 40's and being flamboyantly gay is one of his core hobbies. It's basically too late for that since the last big voice actor change was Karma's and her voice stereotype only got worse when they remade her, but if any input helps and my opinion matters in the least -- make him more akin to Ezreal, and less like Garen or Darius. The Gem-knight paladin theme is awesome, it would be a shame if we got ANOTHER mid weight middle aged character for it.

I would start with: • Make his shield smaller so you see more of the model. • Update his dance to something a fabulous knight would do (and not the Ickey shuffle). • Upgrade his run/walk to something a proud knight would use. • Make his particles even flashier than before, especially his dazzle and the foot crystals Lissandra obviously stole from him! • Make updated splash art as fast as humanly possible.

Would love a (Taric) VU but first he would need a Gameplay update or a Rework as he is straight up out classed by (Braum) even existing. Braum can do just about everything that you would pick Taric for and doesnt have to have complete trash ratios as he only has to build defenses and gets damage and area control with his shield blocking more than Taric ever could.

Taric's Bonus damage passive is trash when compared to Braum's passive, the stun is longer and deals more damage and can be reapplied more often than Taric's (unless full cdr and max use of his passive).

Taric's heal is minimal or ineffectual compared to any other heal, his armour boost is A0E but is less than a Braum Stand behind me by a longshot. Taric's armour shred doesn't help as much as it seems it should, his ult while impactful is still less team useful than Braum's as he needs to be in the center of the entire enemy team and close to his allies which is counter productive to its effect on allies.

These are my thoughts on Taric as a Non-Taric player and have had to face a Braum on his release day, while i had played Taric a bit more than i had played Braum on the pbe.

I like serious Taric. I'm just not fond of the headgear there. He's a guy who protects people and bashes people with a hammer and shield. He can still have his silly, outrageous side too, I feel.

In general, Taric is really one dimensional right now. He's just the same joke over and over. He's supposed to be about protecting people and compassion. But we don't see that in his lore or his dialogue. Yes, he can have a few jokes, yes he can have some over the top aspects to him (hell, Braum is very over the top, but done right). What you should look for in Taric, is honor, prudence, valor, determination, and a strong compassion. Build him up on those aspects, and you'll build his character. His gem fetish (cause that's what it is right now to the community) is a joke, not a humanizing quality. He's supposed to draw power and magic from them, not be fixated on them.

So, let Taric be quirky, knightly, and proud. If you make him funny, that's fine. But give him a reason to be funny. If you want him to be effeminate, outrageous, and flashy... then you're missing out on who you already have. Don't make him into a Yumichika or Charlotte Chuhlhourne from Bleach, make him into Dordoni Alessandro Del Socaccio. Make him a proud warrior with an appreciation for beauty.

Caitlyn lands her Piltover Peacmaker "Your aim is a beautiful art." Taric heals Ezreal "By the light of this Diamond, I vow to stand by you." Taric stun's Thresh, "Your wickedness shall not tarnish our victory!"

But yes, you can have his taunt be "You are simply, outrageous!"

I think he can have a serious side an a goofy flamboyant side. Don't just completely remove his "ooo gems" things though.

I had always imagined Taric to be this combination of Samson (brownish skin and dark curls but really handsome, since pasty euro-centric paladins are both really boring and overused + (big plus) his name is Taric, which is Middle Eastern) with a bit of He-man silliness and some inspiration from paladins who are more of the kind/patient type.

Things not to do: Make him vengeful, angry, sadistic, or straight-forward in his taunts or boastfulness. If he taunts another champion, he should be throwing shade. He should never sound riled up about his enemies. Same goes for when he boasts of himself, it should sound like he's not even trying to prove anything because he's too good (and not that he's trying to sound that way, but he really doesn't need to prove anything). Also, don't remove his gems, don't completely put out his flame either.

Oh boy... good luck with this rework guys. There's no way you're gonna please everyone when you make this update. I'm of the opinion that a serious taric would work but there's definitely going to be vocal backlash unless he's at least a little flamboyant. It was a community created idea from the start, like the idea that ezreal is a lesbian or a girl, or that teemo is satan, it doesn't really have to be acknowledged in game for it to be part of the game.

Maybe you could go for a more serious interpretation (with a little less humor) in his Classic/Emerald/Bloodstone skins while retaining his Outrageousness in his Armor of the Fifth Age skin for all the nostalgics who do not wish for a more "serious" Taric. This way those who want their badass paladin protector champion can have it in the classic skin whilst those who love current Taric can see it in his AoTF skin(i.e. keep old voiceovers or w/e).

I think some clarity on Taric would be nice, some kind of visual effect showing both teams that they are under effect of taric's passive armor and magic resist, as well as a range for taric, so that he knows to keep close to his allies.

He should be very pretty, he should be impeccably groomed, he should have a smooth and rich voice, and he should be appreciative of similar qualities in others. Heck, I wouldn't mind him being somewhat flirtatious, even.

However, he shouldn't be just a joke, the way he is now. He needs to have room for humor, since many of his quirks are a rather pleasant contrast to other more somber champions, but that doesn't mean he should be without his own badassery. I think a lot of people want to play a true paladin character without feeling like they're just the butt of every joke. I mean, the whole "Ooh, Taric/Ez in bot lane brush, how scaaAAAaaAAAndalous~*~" joke is just tired at this point.

Give us a heroic and badass paladin, but let him be pretty and flirtatious when he's not dismantling his enemies and rallying his allies. Give us a gem-encrusted hammer of face-destruction, but let its wielder also enjoy gems for their beauty.

I agree with Moogle, I want a serious Taric personally, one with more personality as to who he is, but not just another Garen or Braum, if you could. HOWEVER. I would appreciate a champion rework much more to make him more viable and more fun, as opposed to weak stun, weak heal, OP ult, passive armor, the end.

My problem with Taric is that I don't actually know what his character is supposed to be. He's a "Gem Knight," whatever the hell that is. So do his gems allow him to heal people? Are they magic? What kind of magic do they perform and why are they useful for him? Do they let him stun people? What is his W about? Is that ice or... gems?

Taric just has no definite character or fleshed-out central idea to him. He's completely devoid of identity outside of being a walking joke. His kit is just stuff. A heal, a stun, an armor buff that can do AoE damage, and an unexciting ult that gives a power aura. If you put that next to, say, Sona or Thresh, you begin to see just how flat and lifeless Taric really is.

When I think of Taric, I don't think of a paladin (paladins are holy men, and Taric's heal is just generic green, and nothing else about him screams "holy"), and I don't even think of a compassionate or selfless knight. I think of gems, because that is his entire identity. I'd like to see him taken in any direction because he currently doesn't seem to have one.

I might be a minority here, but A) I like serious takes on things (though not over the top grimdark), and B) as a bi dude I am so tired of the gay jokes. Because it's like a double slap: we don't get any confirmation that he is, in fact LGBT (which means no representation) and he's also made a laughingstock because of his flamboyant design. And even if he was gay or bi or whatever, the flamboyance just plays into the stereotype. Making him more serious would either get us an anti-stereotype if he's ever confirmed gay/bi, and/or would at least curb the gay jokes somewhat.

I'm sure most straight people here are gonna jump at me for this, but that's kinda easy when it's not a part of you that's being relentlessly mocked every time a champion is picked. I like Taric, he was one of my first champs, and I'd love to see him brought back to relevance in a cool way.

I was just thinking about the rework again and it hit me. Why does taric have to be an ugly gay guy? Why cant he be an attractive gay guy that the ladies cant have? Nice look, nice armour. What lady doesnt like jewels? You know give him some nice armour like Kayle and Garen But make him pretty kinda like EZ and Jayce . Give em those piercing eyes that every women would fall into with a smirk and tada, Taric is a real something. Also the long Thick flowing hair. Maybe scale Him up to about Garen and Braums Size. Slim him slightly like and , keep him toned and slim the Hammer a bit. That's all i have for now.

You mean not be a joke for every single role? Outrageous~
