If RuneTerra is so big why do we fight on the same map?

Wouldn't it make more sense if there where more than one design too summoners rift? Each depicting a different area of rune terra?

Lore-wise, no. Games aren't just fights that break out all over runeterra. Summoner's rift is the most used field of justice where summoners summon champions to fight over political conflicts. It's located in one of the places where magic is most heavily concentrated, so it works well for what it's used for. There are other fields of justice though (Howling Abyss, twisted treeline, crystal scar, etc), but there aren't any others that are like summoner's rift.

That said, if Riot wanted to, they could always make something up about them creating a new field of justice or something, or say they found more heavily magically concentrated areas in Valoran to make some fields. Or they could just throw what little lore there is out the window, they seem to enjoy doing that.

They abandoned the whole concept of "the fields of justice" and "institute of war" a while ago... And compared to when they did exist, the lore we are getting is less informational text book, and more storybook, with little details instead of just "focus on the tactics, focus on the enemy, focus on DEMACIA!"

The League is deciding in what areas an "official" conflict can take place. It also needs access to at least two Nexus if I remember correctly.

That doesn't mean a conflict is strictly limited to a battlefield of the League. There were fights over the Crystal Scar / Kalamanda between Noxus and Demacia as described in the JoJ. Gameplaywise it's just a matter of not splitting up the community over too many maps as well as Riots complete incompetence to build interesting gamemodes or maps that aren't based on the AoS formula.

The reason that we don't get different designs of summoners rift is the difficulty in balanced visibility between different maps. (See Wintermap/Halloweenmap) as well as the detailed and costly work to script and edit the map if it's a completely new alteration and not a reskin like the upcoming wintermap. Which is honestly bland, soulless and something a single person could do in a few weeks.

why does it need 2 nexus?

why not a capture the nexus with a central nexus where it's both teams objective is to gather points by holding on to the nexus

or one team has the nexus the other team needs to capture it

I have a lovely map where I occasionally visit to relax. It's in a quite quaint and quiet location, just nestled deep in the Shadow Isles. The battles there are rather intimate, as only 3 champions per side are allowed. But care for the giant spider on the Northern Edge.
