Taric rework idea. just looking for feedback.

so basically, i have a thematic problem with Taric as a champion. he is a Knight, a warrior based around Gem magic. but his kit to me does not reflect that. a Gem warrior should manipulate gems, stones, and refracted light. i mean, his spells LOOK like Gem magic, but is that really enough? not for me it isn't. Imbue heals for god's sake. HOW THE HELL DOES A GEM HEAL SOMEONE. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. sorry. I have put together a (very) loose idea of what i would more envision a Gem Knight to fight like. there are no numbers involved (I didn't want to set values, just point out abilities and effects). i would greatly appreciate both feedback from other players, and insight into how they think it would recreate Taric as a Gem Knight who is not only a tanky support with cool CC and interesting game play, but a more solid and interesting character overall. cheers.

passive:imbued armor- taric gets .5/1/1.5/2 armor (at levels 1/6/11/16) for

every 100 bonus Health he has. this bonus doubles for 4 seconds if taric drops

below 25% health (180 second cooldown)

Q:crystallize-Taric fires a skillshot that marks the first target hit, slowing

them for 20/25/30/35/40% for 2 seconds. if an ally attacks a marked target, the

target takes damage and is stunned for 1.5 seconds. if it strikes an ally, the

ally gains a shield for 2 seconds.

W:shatter-Taric slams the ground dealing damage to any enemies in the area.

enemies struck lose armor equal to half the amount Taric gains from his passive

for 3 seconds.

E:crack-Taric slams the ground, creating a line of cracked earth that cannot be

walked past. (it can be jumped over or dashed through if the dash travels far

enough). length of the crack and duration it lasts ramp up as ability is

leveled.

R:SHINE!-Taric shines brilliantly, creating an aura around himself for 5

seconds. enemies who enter the area are blinded by 2 seconds and slowed.

allies in the area gain half of Taric's passive for the duration.

Keep in mind, this is a very rough version, with almost no numbers attached (as far as scaling etc.). I agree it is quite a bit of different effects involved across his kit, but a good support should be rewarded for good positioning, timely spell use, and good itemization. i really feel this kit would bring all of that, while allowing sufficient room for counterplay, buffs and nerfs, and a more realistic realization of how a Gem Knight would use his craft on the rift.

I like your style with it, it does present him more in a tank top than a support bot. That use of his E is unique and really useful, especially if you want to work in splitting up enemy laning partners and the like. Nicely done, even though it is a rough version. If I may suggest my own ideas for Taric here:

Passive Ability - Gemcraft

Taric manipulates the power of his gems, granting himself passive bonus stats depending on what state he is in after his last ability use:

Imbune: Taric's armour glows with the power of the Emerald, giving himself (5% x level) increased base health regeneration. Allies [within a 600 range] gain half of these effects.

Shatter: Taric's armour glows with the power of the Ruby, granting himself 10 (+0.75 x level) attack damage. Allies [within a 600 range] gain half of these effects.

Dazzle: Taric's armour glows with the power of the Sapphire, granting himself (5% x level) increased base mana regeneration. Allies [within a 600 range] gain half of these effects.

Radiance: Taric's armour glows with the power of the Diamond, granting himself 15 (+1 x level) bonus armor and magic resist. Allies [within a 600 range] gain half of these effects.

Active Ability 1 - Imbune

Taric empowers his target ally with the power of the Emerald, healing them for and Taric for 40/70/100/130/160 (+0.4 Ability Power, +3.0/3.5/4.0/4.5/5.0% maximum health) health. If Taric casts Imbune upon himself, he alone is healed for 60/95/130/165/200 (+0.6 Ability Power, +4.0/4.5/5.0/5.5/6.0% maximum health) health. Taric then gains the effects of the Emerald Gemcraft until his next spell cast.

Active Ability 2 - Shatter

Taric passively stores all spells cast [within a 700 distance] by allies and enemies into his crystal hammer. He then gains 1.0/1.5/2.0/2.5/3.0 armour for every spell stored. The maximum amount of spells stored is 6.

When activated, Taric shatters his hammer on the ground to deal 45/65/85/105/125 (+0.35 Ability Power) magic damage, plus 8/10/12/14/16 (+1% of maximum health) magic damage for every stored spell in his hammer. Enemies struck have their armour reduced for 3.5 seconds equal to the amount of armor Taric loses from casting Shatter. ** Taric then gains the effects of the Ruby Gemcraft until his next spell cast.**

Active Ability 3 - Dazzle

Taric causes his shield to explode with a bright light, stunning a single targeted enemy. This deals 80/140/200/260/320 (+0.4 Ability Power) magic damage and stuns the target for 0.75 seconds if they are right in front of Taric. If the target is further away from Taric, Dazzle deals up to 40/70/100/130/160 (+0.2 Ability Power) magic damage and stuns the target for 1.5 seconds. Taric then gains the effects of the Sapphire Gemcraft until his next spell cast.

Ultimate Ability U - Radiance

Taric brings forward his power of the earth to summon diamonds that explode out of the ground around him in 3 rings that get wider with each explosion (similar effect to Nautilus' Riptide). The inner ring deals 90/140/190 (+0.65 Ability Power) magic damage and knocks enemies up for 1.25 seconds. The middle ring deals 80/120/160 (+0.55 Ability Power) magic damage and knocks enemies aside slightly. The outer ring deals 70/100/130 magic damage and slows enemiess by 30% for 1.25 seconds. Enemies hit by multiple rings have the damage reduced by 40% for every ring that follows after the first. Enemies can be affected by multiple instances of crowd control effects from Radiance. Taric then gains the effects of Diamond Gemcraft until his next spell cast.

What do you think of that one? In terms of a support/tank role anyway.

Granted, I agree this may change this champion's persona and lane potential, let's face it... Taric is probably the most useless support in the game, the most unplayable character in the game due to how bad he is. I absolutely adore this concept. There are alot of "tank" characters in League, but it seems top champs are falling off either to jungle or even support, ffs. I would be glad to play this concept top lane and play it proud! Good idea, buddy. ;)

I like the idea. I think what makes Taric viable now is his ability to heal himself and others. If you're looking to rework him as a more support champ, I wouldn't remove that factor. I like the idea of a skill shot but I would keep it as a stun. I like the idea of adding other support effects to him like the E idea, but make it his ult instead, like cataclysm on J4. That way it's not just a ult that is meant to weaken ADC's but APC's as well. If your goal is to be able to play him any lane, then honestly would only swtich his W and his health scaling.

I always figured Taric's magic was more druidic in nature and just happened to use gems as a conduit.

While not a bad concept for a champion, he doesnt feel very...support-y. Well not as much as a support should feel. Also a 2 second AoE blind is INSANE.

The one issue I have with Taric is that odd hammer...mace...gem...staff... thingy he carries.

I view him more as a heavily armored mage. His magic can be seen reflecting a belief gems have healing or purifying properties that some people have.

I have to say though, I DO really like the idea behind that E.
