#Lore "Being alive doesn’t mean to live" - Mortalis, the Twisted Darkin
*"The Darkins – a mysterious and yet almost extinct race, who, despite of their unearthly power, have been forgotten over the past centuries. Only a handful have met a Darkin and could live long enough to pass down their tale, but one particular person was directly involved. Mortalis, a name given by his better half, symbolizes that even those bloodlust creatures that history feared most and respected most, shall have a conscience... or two. *
Long time ago, the Darkin Mortalis was weary of peaceful nations on Runeterra, and thus fed them with different and yet false information, only to wage war amidst them. Instead, his false information only ruined each of the nation’s reputation, but never fanned the flames of war. Mortalis sought for aid from a ancient tribe, he longed for an artefact that gives him the appearance of a human, to spread lies within the inner ranks of a kingdom, and eventually bring war. He was granted a pendant that gave him the ability to shapeshift, but ignored the warnings of risks.
*More and more, he created battles through giving false Intel, but months after permanent human form, he changed dramatically. He met a young girl named Lucinda, and eventually fell in love with her. It was then when he snapped out, longing for bloodshed and violence, turning back to the Darkin Mortalis and slaughtering innocent people in front of his beloved. Instead to run away, she held his hand and the battle between two minds in one body occurred. The Darkin refused the human feelings and created a second personality, who gained more and more strength of the body. *
Destruction and war is the fuel of the Darkin, who gains more and more control of his body when he soughs for it the most. On the other hand, the human Mortalis inherits the love and peace, which he wants to protect with all he has. A battle between two minds in one body, on the fields of justice, is about to erect."
#Appearance
Sorry for the lack of skill, but I’m not good at drawing. However, Mortalis looks like this down below. He uses claws in order to deal damage and his wings are so long, that it grinds on the ground and can be even used as a coat. His head is special – he has a helmet-like upper head, but it’s kind of biological and belongs to his body – and yes, his eyes are covered.

I’ve played around with Zbrush and made a sculpture of his head.

In Human form, he looks similar to this:

#Champion Explanation
- Mortalis (is latin for mortal) has two personalities. One is the Darkin, who hates and spites on everything what has to do with humans, but feels collegial to other Darkins. He is somewhat depicted as the cold-hearted and aggressive half of Mortalis. The other one is the human, who is brave and smart, and fights to keep Mortalis in the cage of the Fields of Justice, in order to safe and protect everyone, especially his girlfriend.
- *Some say that the Darkin always had feelings of a human, but ousted from it to cover the pain he felt and thus wanted to destroy in order to bury the memories. *
- *The reason why Mortalis is in the League of Legends, is because of two reasons. One, is that the human inside of him tries to imprison him on the fields of justice, to feed his lust for blood and war. The second reason is his girlfriend… *
- *When Mortalis’ personality was split, the human and his girlfriend couldn’t live together. Whenever Mortalis was near her, he rebelled inside and began to transform. The reason why, is because even though the human side gained most control of the body, the Darkin hates humans from the deepest core. He is also a very conservative person, which leads to the fact that he frowns interracial relationships. There is a way how the human Mortalis and his girlfriend can be together forever, but this is not the right time for it. *
- *Mortalis is a shapeshifter who changes to human and darkin form. In human form, Mortalis is a thunder magician. In darkin form, he is a furious and tricky warrior. *
- *Mortalis is best played on a solo lane like mid lane, perhaps top lane too. *

While dashing, Mortalis can recast to stop at the current location and releases a furry of strikes within 250 range around him. After those 2 seconds or upon recast, the shield disappears and heals Mortalis by the double amount of the shield amount left. If the shield is destroyed before, Mortalis won’t be healed.

#Concept Explanation
While yes, Mortalis doesn’t offer a new mechanic and uses a shapeshifter kit similar to others, he still can contribute very well as an offensive mage/carry, who relies on close to mid combat in order to function at its best. His weakness is also his strength, because the closer he is to an enemy, the powerful and frightening he can be. For a explanation: Mortalis Darkin uses E to root his target, switches back to Human and uses E to stun the target – he then begins to cast his W shield while he charges his Q – back to Darkin form, he can unleash his fury on the target. He has many engage abilities, but lacks of escape ability. Once he gets caught, he can be shutdown very fast. He is very vulnerable to CC and against high mobility Champions.
- Innate Passive encourages Mortalis to use abilities and basic attacks frequently, thus to think strategically.
- His Q offers either a great source of damage as a human, or to engage and push aside enemies to engage or disengage.
- The W allows Mortalis to build a shield based on the damage of his enemies, or to convert all of his physical damage into magic damage, to scale better with his main magic penetration itemization.
- E gives Mortalis the chance to lockdown a single target (or very close enemy groups) or to root enemies, while rooting the enemy is rewarded well if it hits from a distant location.
- Last, but not least - The Ultimate which changes Mortalis’ appearance. It also adds some effects that help him to sustain his health costs.
Mortalis is strong against melee fighters as he can kite them and excel in close combat. On the other hand, Mortalis is because of his kind of glass cannon itemization a easy target for CC and bursts.
Against Mortalis
- Remember – If Mortalis is in human form, every third ability will slow you and in darkin form, every third basic attack deals bonus damage. Use this to your advantage.
- If Mortalis did hit you with Electric Beatdown, try not to cast spells otherwise you will be damaged.
- If Mortalis casts a faint shield, try to attack with basic attacks or otherwise his shield gains enough strength to withstand your other abilities. If he activates it with low health, try to shutdown him before he gets shielded.
- If Mortalis goes for magic penetration and close-combat itemization, try to avoid Mortalis in Darkin form, because if he casts Nothingness, he’ll deal magic damage instead of physical damage. It is also essential to know if you built armor only and not magic resistance.
- Never underestimate Mortalis’ Slice of Illusion, because you can hardly tell when it will strike you or if it will catch you, if the path is invisible to you.
