My Idea for an Udyr Modernization! (Rework)
This is a repost from a post I originally posted (wow 2posty4me) on Reddit.
#DISCLAIMER: Any of the numbers have been tested and would DEFINETLY need to go under balance tests if by any means this idea comes out in the final game. I hope you understand I'm not a champion designer but a simple player. I apologise if any tooltip isn't clear enough, maybe the context below can help clarify any doubts and if not I'll be pleased to answer any coments you want to make. Onto the post!
Hi everybody! This is Alex! (EUW: PROJECT Aletas), A couple days ago I watched a video from the Spanish YouTuber "Revenant" where he was going through an Udyr gameplay sharing some thoughts on how he would rework him. After watching that video I started to craft my own rework and here are my ideas so far:
#Tooltip:
-
Passive - Lord Of The Beasts: Upon taking down a jungle camp, Udyr will get a stack of Rage of the Nature. Every time Udyr basic attacks or connects any offensive spell on an enemy (champion, minion or monster), he will get 2x(Stacks of Rage of the Nature)% movement speed decaying over 2 seconds. If Udyr is able to keep this buff active for 6 seconds, he triggers Lord of the Beasts. Lord of the Beasts grants Udyr 3x (Stacks of Rage of The Nature)% movement speed, 2x (Stacks of Rage of The Nature)% attack speed and X (Stacks of Rage of The Nature)% Tenacity for another 6 seconds. Lord of the Beasts has a (20? maybe based on level) second cooldown.
-
Q - Tiger's Anger: Upon cast, Udyr jumps onto an enemy target dealing X dmg + X% of the target's max health (capped for monsters). Every auto attack hit when his Passive: "Lord Of The Beasts" is active reduces Tiger's Anger cooldown X seconds
-
W - Turtle's Endurance: Upon cast, Udyr creates a giant turtle shell where he stands for 3 seconds. This shell has an X (x number of allies within a distance from Udyr) healthbar that takes damage for every ally that is standing within. Every ally affected gets a 5% lifesteal & spellvamp buff while the shell is active. Udyr instead gets a 10-25% lifesteal & spellvamp based on spell level. When the shell breaks, those buffs decay over 1 additional second. If Turtle's Endurance is cast while Lord of The Beasts is active, it grant's the same movement speed buff to allies affected and it's size increases by 50%.
-
E - Bear's Fury: The first three attacks on an enemy champion or large monster mark them with a paw hit. Every hit deals X damage and slows them for 25% over 1 second. Consecutive hits deal the same damage but the slow is increased to 50% and 75% respectively. When three marks are set on an enemy, Udyr can auto attack again to break those marks and stun its target. Stunned enemies cannot be marked again for 8 seconds.
#R alternatives
The first one is an Ultimate that empowers every other ability while the second alternative keeps the essence of Udyr having 4 basic abilities and no Ultimate:
-
R - Phoenix Glory: Upon cast, Udyr goes gets Lord of the Beasts for 10 seconds and every other ability is buffed:
-
Tiger's Anger has a longer cast range and deals additional burn damage
-
Turtle's Endurance is always at its max size despite the number of allies near Udyr and has additional the shield based on Udyr's additional health. (Maybe give allies an empowered basic attack similar to Sona's Q but make it burn damage to go within the Phoenix theme)
-
Bear's Fury hits always slow for 75% and have halves the remaining cooldown of previously stunned targets if you get to stun a consecutive one. This alternative could be Heimer-like or just empower one ability while Phoenix Gloryalternative1 lasts, depending on if it's overpowered.
-
R - Phoenix Grace: Upon cast, Udyr can ignore unit collision and his auto attacks deal X (x Udyr's AP) additional magic damage. He can cast Phoenix Grace for a second time in the next 3 seconds to summon a fire tornado that surrounds him that deals X (x Udyr's AP) damage per tick to every enemy directly next to Udyr. If Udyr hits an enemy that's being hit by the tornado, it adds burn magic damage over the next 2 seconds.
#CONTEXT:
-
Passive - Lord Of The Beasts: The current Udyr passive feels antiquated and non interactive. I think that him having a passive buff similar to Phage's one that can scale based on stacks could be interesting, specially since he still would be a mid-late game champ due to *him being buffed by early game farming. This also replaces some of the power from his actual E, so *you don't have to spam an ability to get the movement speed, you just need to hit some enemies and/or use your Q (or empowered Q for that matter) . Also having a Tenacity boost makes him able to go full ignore-cc with Mercury Threads and also lets him choose other boots. I think even CDR boots would be nice since he would have many more actual active abilities rather than 3-sec-CD ones.
-
Q - Tiger's Anger: One of the main problems with the actual Udyr is his lack of gap closing and finishing capabilities. This new Q would allow him to chase much more easily without being stopped by the first CC you take and then have to give up the chase. It also helps him clear jungle camps and jump some thin walls if he has vision (since this would be a fix target ability not a skillshot) and counter jungle really efficiently (therefore getting more stacks. more snowball). Since it isn't a skillshot, it doesn't grant him a great tool to escape from threads or enemy teams reacting to his counter jungle, so it'll be rather easy to catch him out guard and take him down. Bear in mind he would now need to attack to get these movement speed buffs rather than just hit E, so here are some more weaknesses he gets when he risks to counter jungle.
-
W - Turtle's Endurance: I think this is a really really cool idea for an utility W that gives him the chance to be more participative on teamfights rather than just chase an enemy down until any of you die. It could have really big impact when facing assasins since you could mitigate a lot of damage if all your team is clustered together and some mage / assasin goes all in your carry. In this situation the main target is your carry and he would get the majority of the shield himself so it would be a nice tool against bruising /assasination but then the shell would be broken and nobody else would get any shield or life stealing buffs. Also, the jungle mark thing makes Udyr a jungler and not a botlane support that could 90% rely on this ability on lane. Turtle's Endurance would also have a nice impact if empowered by Phoenix Glory when facing AOE enemies since it'd be easier to cover your allies and make a safer spot for your enemies, althought it could be easier to hit an AOE stun that turns the fight over for the enemy team. The choice is on you. This makes up for the old W and it's sustain ability while jungling but bear in mind that the shield scales on near ally champions so it won't be as strong while jungling in the early stages of the game.
-
E - Bear's Fury: Since old E's movement speed buff is somehow replaced with his new passive (and Phoenix Glory) he only lacks the CC part. He won't be able to proc a stun as quickly as the old E could, but the CC would last for a lot longer if you get to connect every hit necessary. This makes him choose whether he wants to keep focusing one target until he stuns them or change objectives and slow several enemies before stunning any. In addition, this would not affect his jungling capabilities very much since the stun would be applied anyway, just a couple secs later but similar frequency.
#R alternatives:
-
R - Phoenix Glory: This Ultimate could make his power spike at level 6 similar to the vast majority of the remaining champions, so he wouldn't fall behind after the second buffs spawn. It gives him the opportunity to get some power from his old E since he would trigger his passive for a longer duration + giving additional effects to every other ability. His Q would deal more damage; his W would overall be much more powerful; and his E would be much more effective if you have to change targets and also allow to stun them more often if consecutive targets are stunned.
-
R - Phoenix Grace: This ability would keep the feel of Udyr not having an Ultimate but 4 abilities and have to choose between maxing Q or R, therefore making him able to have flexible playstyles. It would make up for the chase part of his Q (since he wouldn't max it early/at all, it would have a rather high CD for him to rely on it) and the damage would be AOE, ideally for a tank/hybrid playstyle rather than the AD Offtank.
#I really love how this idea turned out and I'd love to hear some thoughts on this! Thank you for reading and feel free to share any feedback!
