New item theory craft for AP bruiser or tanks designed for top laners or aggressive supports.
Alright, I haven't played this game consistently for long since I was a smite player. Smite for me has been pretty awful as of late so I have been gradually switching to other games and League has finally gotten my attention longer than a few months and with the addition of sanguine blade and no items that fix poor itemization for MR I would like to propose a new item. Now I don't believe this item will fix the MR problems currently being felt but I do feel as though it would be beneficial for certain play styles while keeping it from being a auto purchase, due to high cost, so support doesn't simply grab it.
Now to get into the item itself and what I believe is a niche item that I would personally love and has been lacking in the game.
First off I need to argue why I believe a item with cross mitigation is valuable but not particularly game breaking for top lane. In bot lane cross mitigation from having a item that gives both armor and MR is invaluable due to there likely being 2 damage types you can consistently mitigate with those stats so you don't lose on wasted gold value on MR when you aren't using it. This however is not the case in top lane where you will likely only be encountering one of the types of damage (exceptions occur such as champions that can utilize both damage types) but the normal understanding is you get a big core defense item towards their main type of damage and that covers you for the laning phase and towards the mid game. Which means if you are wasting gold on a cross mitigation item you would need to justify that gold spent by seeing if the enemy jungler or mid laner would be worth building towards even though they might not gank.
Now the item I propose is a cross mitigation item that combines
Which costs 1100 gold and
which costs 1500
The finished item I believe would have around 40 AP 200 Health 40 Armor and 40 MR these stats alone makes it cost efficient at 2923 gold meaning without the passive you would be 100.7% gold efficient at 2900 cost, 97.44% gold efficient at 3000 cost and 94.29% gold efficient at 3100.
This gold price look good on paper but I would like to add a additional passive on top of the normal Madness passive that stacks for a 10% damage bonus. So the passive that I would like to see on the item would read as
Unique Passive: Taking or dealing damage gives a stack that reduces damage taken by 1% stacking up to 5%
I would like this passive to be a aura that builds up and gives you the mitigation and also nearby allies. Now this might sound shocking or overpowered to some but I would like to offer my opinion on why a aura mitigation is valuable but not overpowered.
Roughly speaking we can quantify the value in gold for mitigation since armor and MR give stat based mitigation. For this I will be taking a adc's base armor vs a tanks base armor then add into stats to show you the true value of added mitigation gold value wise. For my example I will use Varus who is a adc that has a base armor value of 27 that scales up to 87.8 as he levels to 18. The tank I will utilize is Maokai who has a base armor of 39 that scales up to 107 as he levels to 18. Now I am going to just use Maokai as a example here because this item wouldn't be used by Varus and would cost too much for his base 27 to matter but i will mention varus later. Maokai at 39 armor at level 1 gives 28% physical mitigation, at 39 armor 15 armor gives you 54 armor which gives you 35% physical mitigation which means at Maokai's starting armor value 300 gold equals 7% mitigation. At 54 the next 15 armor puts you at 41% mitigation which means at this point 300 gold equals 6% mitigation. Which means at 84 armor which is 3.8 points below a level 18 Varus' base armor value 5% mitigation becomes worth exactly 300 gold. Now this means that an increase above 84 armor, 5% mitigation gets increased gold value. So by this logic this passive is less valuable on squishies and more valuable on tanks which makes the passive extremely valuable but not overpowered since the squishies on your team will only get a marginal increase to mitigation that they could likely get similar effects by getting 15 armor or MR.
Now I am not sure what gold value this item should be combined at but I am leaning towards 3100 or 3200 gold which makes it quite gold efficient but I am not certain that is a issue. It could be scaled down value wise to make it balanced but I honestly have been wanting a item like this for a long time since i love haunting guise on tanks and I believe it is a perfect item for a tank playstyle but
feels bad to purchase and doesn't feel like a good purchase for tanks.
