Now onto the champion concept.
#Overview:
Stats: Health - 585.25 (+ 99.5) Health Regen - 10.25 (+ 0.75) Mana - 255.5 (+ 31) Range - 125 (Melee) Attack Damage - 65 (+ 3.5) Attack Speed - 0.599 (+ 1%) Armor - 23.35 (+ 4.3) Magic Resist - 33.1 (+ 1.25) Movement Speed - 350
Jade's stats are high on MR, Health Regen, and AD. Her stats are weak on Mana and Attack Speed and the rest are average. Most of Jade's stats usually have high base stats and low growth or vice versa, at level 1 some stats are very strong but at level 18 they are round out to average.
Tank/Fighter - (Most likely Top lane) Attack power - 2 Defense Power - 10 Magic Power - 6 Difficulty - 5
Jade is a very mobile disruptive tank. Her play style would be trying to intercept enemy damage dealers while providing utility and a little bit of protection to her team. She is able to hit enemy tanks hard, block projectiles, annoy enemy carries, all while helping her team gain advantages in skirmishes or fights.
Quick cons - Low overall damage, only does magic damage, has no reliable way to execute enemies, no hard CC, and somewhat high cooldowns.
Quick pros - Blocks projectiles, quite mobile, very tanky, disruptive, has HP scaling abilities, strong independent ultimate and able to bruise tanks.
#Abilities
Passive - Endurance and Will
Jade keeps her determination strong. When any shield is active on Jade, she gains 25% tenacity, 10% movement speed, and she takes 10% less damage lasting as long as the shield is active.
Q - Emerald Reflex
7 second cooldown - 50 Mana - 400 Range Jade reacts to an incoming attack, she instantly shields herself blocking 25/50/100/125/150 (+ 0.5 AP) (+ 0.05 HP) damage for 4 seconds while dashing a short distance in a target direction.
If the shield has persisted for at least 2 seconds or has been broken, Jade can cast Retaliate within 3 seconds.
W - Heavy Shielding
14 second cooldown - 80 Mana - 425 Cast Range Jade prepares herself for a oncoming attack. She dashes to a target location and after 1 second she shields herself blocking 50/75/125/175/250 (+ 0.5 AP) (+ 0.05 HP) damage for 6 seconds. This shield consumes projectiles as long it's active.
If the shield has persisted for at least 3 seconds or has been broken, Jade can cast Retaliate within 3 seconds.
E - Retaliate
6 second cooldown - 45 Mana Passive - Whenever Jade shields herself, her next basic attack to an enemy champion within 4 seconds deals 3%/4%/5%/6%/7% (+ 0.02 AD%) of the target's current health in bonus magic damage.
Active - Jade fights back, she is able to push units aside as she gains a 99% movement speed boost that rapidly decays over 2 seconds. During this time she leaves behind a green energy trail that lasts for 3 seconds dealing 10/15/20/25/50 (+ 0.15 AP) magic damage to all enemies every second.
R - Bulwark of Broken Serenity
155/120/100 second cooldown - 100 Mana Jade's resisted negative emotions bursts manifesting as holographic shield on the battlefield after a 1 second channel. The wall lasts 10 seconds and on impact all enemies are dealt 25/50/100 (+ 0.75 AP) (+0.07 HP) magic damage and suffer a 40% slow that lasts 4 seconds.
As Jade's teammates die her hatred, anger, and sadness intensify. If an ally has died in the area where Jade is casting, the size of the shield, channel time, and damage, increases. Reaching up to 2x size, 3 second channel, and 1.4x damage.
Additionally, if Jade touches the shield a shock wave erupts in a small area around the entire shield dealing half the damage and slowing enemies by half effectiveness and duration. She also gains a shield, blocking 100/200/300 (+ 0.5 AP) (+ 0.05 HP) damage and a 35% movement speed boost for 5 seconds.
If the shield has persisted for at least 2.5 seconds or has been broken, Jade can cast Retaliate within 3 seconds. Allies can also touch the shield to gain the shield and movement speed boost but they do not trigger the shock wave.
#Specifics and Design Philosophy
Some of Jade's abilities can get a bit confusing. This is where I clarify a few things while explaining a few design choices.
Passive: This is a strong passive, it's a bit character defining as well. All shields apply and shields can come from anywhere, ally champions, items, and even a summoner spell. Here are some examples:
. This is a big deal, there are a lot of possibilities that stem from this. Team comps can be made where Jade fits in perfectly, builds will be different from game to game, people might take Barrier on her like how people take Ghost on Hecarim, it's beauty in design and it makes Jade unique. When you play Jade you will feel that shields take more damage than usual and you would feel her mobility. All of this is what makes Jade, Jade.
On the subject of Q and W: I want to describe some of the differences between these two similar spells and what they offer to the player. First and foremost they will be distinguishable for enemies and allies by vastly different particle effects and animations. These two spells are alike because I didn't want to add anymore complexity to her Jade's but I still wanted her to feel like a protector. The point was to have the player learn and master the differences and know which one would be more effective for the situation because some of the key differences go a long way.
Q: Her Q is a dash ability similar to Lucian. The range has been reduced to make her feel a little less mobile but the point is that Jade moves a set distance, it's on a shorter cool down with a weaker shield but you have to learn how to space correctly if you want to try and block damage for your teammate. It's a quick option and it's up fairly often which helps with your E.
W: This ability is similar to Flash where you can "blink" to a targeted area in a radius around the character. Jade's W will function like this with the range reduced and will not be a blink but instead treated like a dash as well so she can't W over Jinx's Chompers. When Jade uses this ability she will dash to the targeted area within the radius and after 1 second, she will be given a heavy shield that will block projectiles. A lot of thought and trade-offs were made when balancing the differences. First this ability is immediately more viable for trying to intercept any incoming attacks than Q, since you don't have to factor any spacing. Second, the shield blocks projectiles, a big deal in it's own right for many reasons. Much better than Q but it's held on a longer cooldown and the shield doesn't come up right away so the player will have to play around this. Good Jades shouldn't even have a problem.
E: This ability was made to help Jade be a little more than just a shielding tank. This ability was made for Jade to be able to bruise and disrupt enemies while adding utility and rounding the edges of her kit. On the note of the passive, it isn't meant to destroy tanks that's why it does damage to the targets current HP and not Maximum HP however. It is worth emphasizing that it does bonus magic damage on top of her basic damage. The active is the part about disrupting. You are forcing the enemy to position differently by doing one of two things: speeding up and shoving them to the side, or forcing them to move out of the energy trail. Either way you choose, and obviously different scenarios call for different choices, the enemy is now forced to deal with you.
R: This ult has many uses and does many things. You could initiate a fight using this ultimate by abusing the team shield and movement speed boost since the impact slow and damage will probably be hard to land in high-level play if you are playing aggressively towards the enemy. Defensively this ult shines a little harder, on top of the team shield you get 2 procs of AOE damage and slow since the enemy will be chasing. It's up to the Jade player to determine when and where to place the shield, where the fight is taking place matters too, the middle lane is far too wide and enemies can position accordingly. The interesting part is when Jade's allies do die and the Jade player decides to hold onto this ability, its an ace in the hole when enemies all try to finish off Jade but it probably won't instantly kill them even with both impact and shockwave. Plus Jade doesn't have much tools to finish the job cleanly so the enemies can escape even if Jade gets this ability off on all enemy champions.
Mobility: I feel I want to address Jade's mobility which is absolutely insane when you take a look at her kit. Note that even at 45% CDR, Jade's abilities will be on too high of a cooldown to be able to run away from everything so she is very vulnerable in that time even with her slight movespeed boosts, shields, and dashes.
#Lore and Personality
Lore: All that was heard were swords clashing, guns firing, and punches flying. Jade remembered her hometown. She remembered being alone, alone in the nation of war, Noxus. This wasn't what Jade's parents expected, a gloomy town of intimidating and muscular men made them rethink their decision to move here, it made Jade's scrawny father immediately an outcast. The hopeful three pressed on and settled in a dark alleyway hidden from sight with no direct entrance. Here, their life of theft began. It was a way of survival. Jade was a young little girl left alone in a makeshift house while her parents rounded up any jewels, food, or water they could find. Sometimes, Jade's mother would stay with her daughter while the husband was out. She would teach her how to sew, cook, but never how to fight. Each day had been passing easy. Stolen gems were turned to money, money yielded water and food, not a lavish lifestyle but one Jade was able to smile living.
A horn was sounding when Jade's father arrived home on another gloomy and rainy afternoon. He dumped his findings on the floor next to the small cot in the miniature house; a green gem, a carton of eggs, a half full canteen and a few coins. The family gathered around the loot and smiled. The sound of the rain hitting the wooden roof echoed, followed by another roar of a horn. Jade wasn't affected though, she was captivated by the beauty of the green gem as it glistened in the low-light. "You like it? You can have it." Jade's mother said with a smile as she noticed her daughter's excitement. Jade swiped the gem and looked at her father, he wasn't looking back at her though, he's looking at the door, he isn't even smiling. Jade's energy quickly dies, she sat still on the floor as her mother approached the concerned father. There was small talk, but Jade heard nothing. Jade's mother motioned for Jade to stay as she and her husband exit the small home carefully. Jade dismissed the motion, she goes back to looking at her new gem. She can see herself stare back. Time passes, Jade had finished assigned chores. She cleaned the cot and the light-bulb using a tad bit of water from the dirty canteen. She used a small cloth she had made. Distant screams were heard as the horn sounded again. Rugged voices were talking around the alley, "Trap worked, we got em'." they would say as footsteps suddenly picked up. Jade's concern compelled her. She felt frightened but curious. She set the cloth down on the cot. Her gem already in her hand as she made her way outside. The rain was still falling, it immediately starts to soak Jade's hair and clothes. The darkness of the valley was unforgiving, but Jade managed to find a ladder next to a tall-building close to home.
Jade slowly climbed the metal ladder, the wet and cold bars made her feel more uneasy in the night. She reached the top and glared at the half-moon before she felt shivers run down her spine. Through the light of the moon Jade saw a crowd of men moving through the center of town. One of the men was wearing a red cape with spiked shoulder guards. A horn sounded and the town light flashed on. It revealed a large circular wooden stage. The caped man walked up the stage steps sternly as the other men stand at attention around the stage, as if guarding it with their lives. The caped man started to pace, Jade couldn't see clearly with his large armored body and large battle-axe in the way, she could only make out two baskets and a chained couple in the center. The man moved, Jade could finally get a clear view. Familiar faces started to appear, it made Jade immediately stiffen. The man stopped and gripped his axe, he prepares to jump as the another horn is sounded. The crowd starts to get loud as Jade slipped down to her knees. She felt frozen with her arms strictly to her side, unable to move and unable to speak. Tears started to flow but only three people were crying. Jade clenched her gem in her hand as the man leaped high in the air with a war-cry, the axe cutting the air as it approached its victims and crashed in to the wooden stage. The baskets were filled, her parents were dead. The cheering slowly stops as people began to disperse, silence filled the air again with the town light being switched off.
Jade was shaking, not just because of the cold. She fell back onto the hard roof as tears and rain ran down the sides of her face. A heaviness dropped on her chest, her head had gone blank, her body started to feel helplessness and pain as the world around her started to blur. Jade still clenched the gem, almost digging her fingernails in her palm. Suddenly, unknown to Jade, the gem began to glow. The gem shrunk in her hand as her palm slowly absorbed it's energy. The growing light started to reach the corner of Jade's eye. Her attention switches, she sat up slowly, wiped her eyes and opened her shivering hand to see nothing but a bright beautiful green light. The light stared back at Jade, then it started to move around her, it started to surround her. Jade looked around, just after a few seconds she found herself enclosed in a sphere of beautiful green light, seemingly brighter than the moon. Jade extended her arm and palm outwards as if she is trying to touch the sky, she could no longer feel the rain touching her hands and clothes, she tiled her head upwards to see the heavy rain hitting the surface of the light sphere.
Jade wandered home with too many emotions that night, she found it hard to smile and would sleep with a heartache. Even with these feelings she spent the later days living her life as her father and mother taught her while trying to find some sort of clarity by exploring her newfound ability. Years pass, and the memory had been tucked away. All Jade could do was live her life and come to understand her periodically glowing arm. The day she finally had come to a conclusion about her gem made it seem that Jade was a completely new person. She realized this light, this energy, was a shield, but Jade knew she could do so much more than shield someone from the pouring rain, she could protect people, she could care for people, to never let anyone endure death as she has. Jade finally brought herself to a smile but still wanted to to prove it to herself. So, she left Noxus. She made herself a set of clothes, scavenged for some money and bought a small pouch. The pouch would be customized, filled with whatever money, food, or water Jade had and strapped on her shoulder to accompany her on the road ahead.
"I know what it's like to have people you care about die. All the time. I know how it feels to have death envelope you everyday. Some know this too, but none care for it like I do. " - Jade, The Keeper of Compassion
Personality: Jade super sweet girly girl person who is always polite in all situations. She is that type of person that smiles in every scenario, resisting and blocking all negative emotion. Very adamant on her beliefs, all she wants is to protect people so they don't have to experience death, and care for people so that they can process death easier. Her kindness and virtue is widely recognized in the Piltover, Zaun, and Noxus regions but she feels as if she hasn't done her job is she fails at those two "conditions" she has set for herself. She is unaware of the ideas of justice but she has favoritism of the people she protects. If favored person happened to die under her watch, she grows oppressively sad and slightly angry at herself. Sometimes, it's enough to push her over an edge.
#Appearance
http://i.imgur.com/nRWaFkC.png <<<<<<<< Jade is a 19 year old girl who is of average height and has a delicate, petite, and slim body. She has a "innocent face" which features small lips, a dainty nose, thin eyebrows, black eyes and usually a smile to compliment her slightly pale skin. Her hair is wavy, soft, and well-brushed, it is a vibrant green color and goes down to shoulder length. She keeps the majority of her bangs held back with a small black hair-clip. Jade's clothes are simple and designed by herself, signifying independence. She wears a pale-tan, thin, and long-sleeved blouse that displays a imperfect oval Lapis Lazuli in the center. She pushes only her right sleeve up so that it rests above her elbows, her left sleeve sits just below the wrist. The blouse is long enough to rest below her hips and cover a belt that holds up black, form-fitting long pants with two pockets at the hips. The pants are long enough to go over her small, brown leather boots featuring a silver buckle to secure them. Jade also has a small pouch or purse resting on her hip, strapped to the opposite shoulder with a thin white strap. The purse itself is striped with a dull yellow and white color, it also features a imperfect Lapis Lazuli gem in the center. Finally for accessories, Jade doesn't wear earrings but she does wear a tiny, tear-drop shaped silver necklace and also a very loosely fitting jade bracelet on her right arm.
Upon any ability use, her right hand and forearm would begin to glow a deep emerald color. Similar to Underworld Twisted Fate. However, the effect should not be as intense or bright and it should fade after a few seconds. The color obviously has to "greener" as well.
#Author's Notes
This would be my first character concept. There is so much to read but I think all the specifics and details will hopefully fully capture what I am think in my head. I understand this was a burden to read so thank you for reading even if you skimmed the lore and design philosophies.
10/14 -
- Cleaned up the ending to her Lore! It had two climaxes which isn't a good idea. More detail was implemented and it's much more smooth and easier to read.
- All abilities have gone under massive changes, numbers and function. Passive now makes Jade's shields feel more durable which helps Jade feel like the specialized shield-er she was designed to be. Q is completely changed and so is the W, they both are now movement abilites with one being a dash and one being a "blink" The range on both are lowered so Jade doesn't feel too mobile complete with higher cooldowns so you could actually catch her. E now pushes people which makes her more disruptive and now has a cooldown to accommodate the new Q and W. The idea behind this is to limit how often she can retaliate since the conditions for her to use it are softened, I also tuned the movement speed she gets from E to make her less mobile. R will grant the team a shield with a movement speed boost which makes it MUCH more versatile overall.
- Rewrote the entire Specifics and Design Philosophy section.
- Rewrote the introduction about Jade's targeted playstyle.
- Slightly poked her overall stats.
- A wonderful picture that I edited in paint has been added.
