There has been talk of Assassin Rework, S7, and Elementalist Lux. What about a New Champion?
Everyone has been going on about what I mentioned in the title, but I've been wandering, what will they do for a new champion? It has been about two months since Ivern's Reveal and Riot seems to be making a pattern of releasing new champions every two to three months, and at least having teasers for the champions a couple weeks in advance. While I started playing League almost a year ago, I feel like I can try to make a prediction of the next champion or at least guess what the next champion will be like. The link is meant for people interested in looking at the list of champion reveals within the past couple years.
There has been a flow as of recently in the past year of reworks and changes that have in a way influenced new and reworked champions. During mid season, riot did a mage rework, fixing multiple champions and created new champions around the time of this rework and these new and fully reworked champions were all mages and reworking items targeted for mages. These new champions were Aurelion Sol and Taliyah, a fully reworked champion in the midst of these changes was Ryze, a mage. While the assassin rework does kind of break this continuity with Ivern being a controller mage who was released before the soon to be assassin rework. While the assassin rework has a couple changes to items and masteries which seem to benefit champions in his role as a mage support, the focus is on assassins in the patch. With this logic it is safe to predict that the next champion to be released to be an assassin, however there are several support items and masteries that are being added to the game. My conclusion is that the primary role is likely an Assassin, and this is to further test the new assassin items.
Champion themes and origins seem to have this rotating pattern of going from region to region, making new champions who play a unique part to the game and interact with champions in newer ways. I would like to start this with the first new champion of this year, Jhin. Jhin is an Ionian champion (or who we assume to be Ionian) that is a marksman who loves giving people a beautiful death, then we got Aurelion Sol, a star dragon mage who has ties with Targon. Taliyah is a Shuriman girl mage who is a weaver of stones, Kled is a Noxian Yordle who is a fighter/tank. And finally, Ivern a champion from Freljord and had interactions with Ionia who is a mage and to a degree, a support. Even before, Riot has released several champions from, Bilgewater, Freljord, Ionia, Targon, Shurima, Noxus, Piltover, and the Shadow Isles. Possible locations this champions could be from is Demacia, Piltover. I don't think a champion will originate from Bandle City on account of Kled having been released so early, however, there is still a possibility of a yordle or a creation from the City to be made. Piltover is a possibility because of the lack of recent champions that are Piltover, other than Ekko, who was released a year ago. The most probable region that a new champion could come from is from Demacia, my reasoning is that a Demacian hasn't been released for at least two years. Unless Riot doesn't follow their philosophy of having a good rotation of champions with roles, lore, theme, and playstyle. My conclusion of nationality is that it will be someone from Demacia or someone who aligns them self to Demacia. However seeing as an assassin is unusual for Demacia (except for Xin Zhao), so Piltover/Zaun based champion would be another region for that person to originate from. If the champion ends up a Demacian, he/she/it can employ a more humaniod but more aggressive style than Ivern and not to the extent of Kled. If a Zaunite or Piltover, the champion could be more comfortable being a machine which would make Blitzcrank no longer the only full machine. Now some may be against this idea, however if the machine is more of a modern machine or even have a more female oriented voice and not steampunk and male oriented voice like what Blitzcrank is then it would maintain a unique style to the champion.
So far what I have predicted that a possible new champion is a Demacian or even a Piltover assassin, which does sound odd, however I feel that either nationalities will work whether it is human or machine. With the fact that this champion is a potential assassin, which probably makes the champion melee and AD. While there are many different types of melee weapons employed by assassins and fighters, I feel that one such style is a double bladed sword such as one used by Darth Maul from Star Wars: the Phantom Menace. This is because Riot has various single blades and a couple champions with two blades, but not a single weapon with two swords. Kit could be based on spinning this sword around, however this would be too reminiscent of what Jax does. A way to change this is to instead make it more mechanically challenging to use that what Jax is like make the spinning more vertical rather than horizontal. This would make positioning the spinning more important as this can be used to defend or attack and make a new fighting style.
TL:DR; I think the next champion will be an AD assassin from Demacia or Piltover either as a human or machine who wields a twin bladed sword similar to what Darth Maul uses in Star Wars: the Phantom Menace. I'm open to discussion on your thoughts, I don't care about upvotes or downvotes. Just plain conversation.
