Caben, the gunsmith - Full Champ Concept

Yesterday I had a talk with a friend about Aphelios and I came up with an idea of a marksman, who can adapt to the game by unique upgrade. So let me present to you

Caben, the Gunsmith

Caben is a gunsmith who has made it his business to develop the ultimate rifle. Growing up in a rather poorer area for Piltover, he started to get enthusiastic about Hextech technology in his early youth and made contacts with the engineers of the city. Many ignored him or laughed at him, but one saw the boy's potential and took him on a trial basis. The engineer was surprised how fast Caben progressed and how innovative he approached things. One day Caben came up with an idea for a weapon that would amaze his mentor. He immediately contacted a friend and introduced Caben and his idea to him. This was Caben's big breakthrough. He began to produce and sell various Hextech weapons. But he kept his original design, his weapon Shorty, for himself. Again and again he closed his successful business to search for new materials and test Shorty in practice. Over time he invented many extensions for Shorty but still he did not find the one.

Passive - Similar to Viktor, Caben starts with one item in his inventory, his weapon Shorty. But the principle behind it is different. The idea is he has to create attachments and then combine them with Shorty. Shorty can only hold 2 weapon attachments and 1 under barrel attachment. For getting the attachments there are several ideas:

  1. he buys weapon parts which he can buy with gold (the amount is different depending on the attachment). The attachment is then automatically added to Shorty.
  2. He gets weapon parts for damageing/destroying towers. These lower the price of the upgrades he can buy directly, because he doesn't have to buy parts anymore.
  3. the same as 2 but with kills and objectives

My ideas for the attachments are the following: Scope - crit + barrel extenxion - more range (let him start with 500-550 and give him +100) stock- attack speed and if it works with magazine. What I would like bigger magazine - more shots faster magazine - faster reload

the under barrel is linked with his Q and amplifies this

Hextech Grenade: reinforced standard Q with more damage and range Fire Greande: Dmg over time and grivious wound cryo greande: slow in an area and deals little dmg

Q- Greande Launcher Caben shoots a grande from his dealing damage in an area. Can be upgrade(see Passive)

E - Stunner Caben hits an opponent near him with the stick of his weapon stunning him and dealing dmg

W - Backstep Caben takes a step back and throw sand (or some other stuff) in front him. Enemies that are hit are blinded

R - Stop Shotgun Time Caben is loading shotgun ammo. Because of this he loses range and some attack speed. But in return he gets damage and AOE. The ability ends after X seconds, after X shots or when he cancels them, which will cause him to reload normal ammo.

The idea behind the champion is that he can adapt to the game. The opponents have Mundo? Fire Grenade. Opponents have Caitlyn? Barrel extension. Maybe it would make sense to divide the attachments into two categories for him to choose from. The plan for the champion is to have a Marksmen that's okay on the lane and strong through the midgame.

If you're still here and you read this, thank you. Since this is my first try I'm also happy to receive feedback. And I apologize for my bad english. I tried to check everything with deepl, but I don't know if I found everything.

Hey there! Chubby here, the local forum creep that stalks character creations! I'm actually amazed at how well developed this champion is! I can tell you're a player of at least 5+ years, or someone who is very well immersed into creation and balance. Either way, Caben is the closest thing to perfection that I've seen thus far on the forums, but he does have some minor issues that need to be address, but they're actually really small! Let's begin with my review!

  • Passive (???): It's very straight forward and leaves little to the imagination as you've clearly laid out how this ability functions. The idea of upgrades throughout the game are not foreign to League, you even used Viktor as an example (which makes me very happy to see. :') because I do that too lol). It seems fair and balanced as is, in terms of design, the numbers could be polished up to see whether he'll need a buff or a nerf but we can work on that later. I like how you leave the concept of acquiring upgrades open to your own suggestions (usually I'm the one that suggests this kind of stuff lol), and if it were up to me I would try to work with gold as much as possible just to keep things clear and cohesive. Having upgrades as a reward might force Caben players to just farm champions to get upgrades and might inadvertently lead to Caben being too powerful if he were to snowball and get a lead. Sticking to gold would keep the game state to something the player base is already used to: farming and objectives. It's simple, clean, and won't cause any unnecessary/risky plays and I'm sure would lower Caben's learning curve by a lot.

  • Q (Grenade Launcher): Another simple ability that is clean and simple, although not all that clear! Would this function as a skill shot (Graves Q)? Or would it function as a ground target ability (Graves W)? Either way, it functions as a bread-and-butter ability and I really like that, while it may feel like a lackluster ability, it has the potential to become something better with an upgrade.

  • E (Stunner): This is the ability I was talking about when I said "minor issues". As you've written Caben, he is a ranged champion, yet... this ability says that you strike the enemy with the stick of your weapon which sounds like this a melee range. Huh? Please feel free to elaborate on how you imagined this ability would function because I am a bit confused. Design wise, I really doubt he would have a melee ranged ability but who knows... maybe he could be the first. Some clarity would be nice!

  • W (Backstep): This ability is also straightforward but seems a little thematically basic lol. He basically kicks dirt into his opponent's eyes and makes them bling. While this is basic in its nature, it's function is a bit too broad to be considered balanced. Riot isn't a ran of blinds, and Caben is trying to introduce an AoE blind. I don't think that would really be possible in today's meta. I'm not opposed to the design of this ability as a whole, I would like to push for more blinds into the game, but just not an AoE one lol. If we change this to be a single target ability then we might be able to roll with that, but maybe you have other thoughts on an ability that could replace this one? I'm not saying you have to, but you seem like the kind of guy who has a back up lol.

  • R (Stop Shotgun Time) (lol wut?): He changes his playstyle to a more Graves-like playstyle with a shotgun. Ok, I can dig it! With this ability I can see how his E would function much better, thematically. Not sure how this would affect his identify in the game. Think of this ultimate as a reverse Kayle lol, in the sense that instead of gaining range Caben actually loses it and I'm not too sure how I feel about that. I don't hate it, but I need to learn a little more about this champion before deciding if it fits his kit. Is he a jungler? A top laner? A traditional botlane ADC? All of these are important aspects to take into consideration when designing a champion who's abilities directly affect his game play (especially when it's dealing with an ADC and the stat in question is auto attack range).

I would love to hear back from you with your thoughts on my thoughts lol. Feel free to reach out to me if you would like to work on making your champion a fully fleshed out creation :D We could work on the lore, character interactions, and some art (although I'm not the best artist). Let me know what you think! Cheers!
