[REQUEST] Enable client access while in low priority queue
In short, the current state of the client when a user is in low priority queue is counterproductive: it essentially forces users' attention away from the game and lends itself to undue frustration.
Almost all regular players will wind up in low priority queue due to something out of their control - a system crash, a bugsplat, an ISP outage, or a network error - at least once in their career. But we deal with it, and we power our way through the 20 minute waits (or more for repeat offenders).
However, by blocking players from accessing the normal menus like store, profile, collection, loot and the chat interface, Riot is losing potential user engagement - these wait times could be better utilised to browse the store, modify rune pages, and so on. I suggest that the normal menu of the client be accessible during the additional waiting periods for low priority queues to enable those in said queues for two main reasons.
Firstly, it's pretty annoying to be unable to make use of the game while it's still running, and since this is the case, it's extremely common for users to alt-tab and miss the notification when a match has been found (this is just anecdotal evidence from the experiences of my friends and myself). I've actually duo'd with some friends in low-priority queue in the past, and the fact that the timer resets if a match is not accepted turns the wait into a nasty cycle. Personally, I have found that missing a match notification is more likely when the wait time is 30 minutes or more, and I have seen this cycle happen to a significant number of players who often end up just giving up on queuing as a result.
Secondly, disabling users in this queue from interacting with the client as normal results in a missed opportunity of sorts for Riot to keep its players engaged in the game: while they obviously can't enter a match during this period, they could use the client socially or to explore other aspects related to gameplay such as rune pages, checking on their quests, etc. Personally, I would be much more likely to spend this waiting time exploring these avenues - and incidentally, this increased engagement would make it less likely for users to miss the matchmaking notification and thus more likely to continue playing the game.
This issue has been raised a number of times, but Riot has never officially commented on the topic. It would nice to get an official comment on what the situation with this is. If this issue with the low priority queuing has frustrated affected you personally, please up-vote this thread so that there is a higher chance Riot may fix it.
