He wants a champion like Invoker from Dota 2. In Dota 2, Invoker's basic abilities are more of recipe ingredients that provide him stat bonuses. He has 3 of them and, based on what combination of the different ingredients he has, he can create different spells by activating his ultimate.

For example, say the ingredients are Red, Blue, Green.

Activating Red, Red, Blue gives a spell specific to activating Red, Red, Blue that maybe deals damage and slows. Then you activate Blue, Green, Green, and then you lose the Red, Red, Blue spell but gain a new spell that heals an ally and slows enemies around them.

Through these spell ingredient combinations, you can have a TON of different kinds of spells at your disposal, just not all at the same time.

I was thinking about something like this before, not exactly the same though. I was kinda thinking more along the lines of basic abilities and an ultimate that you could combo in difference sequences for different effects. Almost like Pressens in Remember Me (http://dontnodentertainment.wikia.com/wiki/Pressen). Each ability would be part of a longer chain and the ultimate would be like a finisher who's effects would change depending on the previous combo.
