Dawngate proposal (I know its not likely just hear me out)
Recently I made this post on the Dawngate subreddit and was intending to email this to you but couldn't so I'm posting it here. I know the chances of you replying let alone doing this are extremely low but know that if you did the Dawngate community as a whole would love you forever.
(Start post from reddit) Recently I started playing Dota 2 (I'm primarily a LoL player) and I was reminded of the other mobas I've played, and then Dawngate came up again. Since then I haven't been able to stop thinking about it and so I started looking for fan servers that people might be hosting, but it began to dawn on me as I was looking. They won't ever quite be the same for me. Unless it was Dawngate I was playing it wouldn't be the same, it wouldn't fill the gap. So i started writing a letter, to Riot Games specifically. The letter goes like this:
Dear Riot Games, Recently I rediscovered a game that I had almost completely given up on and miss dearly, that game being Dawngate. I truly am saddened at how little time this game got to be around in the moba community when it showed so much potential and brought so many new things to the genre. I am writing to you today to try and bring this community back into the moba scene. What I mean by this is that I would like to propose that you would become the new publisher for Dawngate. This is obviously no small thing I am asking you, but I ask you and not someone else for many reasons. I feel you are the most likely to be able to successfully bring this game back due to the vast amount of experience you have. **Reason 1: Experience: ** As I stated above you have unparalleled experience with moba type games and would know much more the EA originally did when agreeing to publish Dawngate. EA had no previous experience with running moba type games and as such were completely unaware of the time investment required to make a moba successful. Even with this lack of experience they managed to pull off a very good game so with your expertise at Riot I believe you could really make this game shine. Additionally you know about the time it takes to get a game like this running, e.g. the time taking to accumulate players. This would mean that you could provide enough of what the game needed when it needed it and know what to expect with the game. Reason 2: Advertising: When the Dawngate beta became open to the public many people knew very, very little about it unless they had played it themselves other than the fact that they knew it was a moba. They knew nothing about any differences from other mobas such as the spirit wells and roles mechanics in the game. This led to very few people looking further into it as it didn’t look exciting enough. With League of Legends you have manged to advertise it immensely and effectively across various internet platforms and as such have manged to gather a player base. If you applied this to Dawngate people could learn how different it can be to other mobas and you could attract a whole new array of people to the moba genre leading them to try other mobas such as your own. Additionally you could advertise Dawngate through the League of Legends client to provide a change to those tiring of League, as many of the original players from season 1 are beginning to. Reason 3: Finance and Cost: At Riot Games I feel that the cost for publishing Dawngate would be dramatically lower than for other companies due to your long standing, pre-existing infrastructure. You would not need to change much about areas of your servers to modify them to run Dawngate or you could even set up the same servers to run League of Legends and Dawngate when a game was needed to be started. This would save the major costs of buying new servers and negate any risk of buying new servers in various regions as you already have many across the world. Additionally I seriously doubt that EA would put much cost on the intellectual property rights of Dawngate as they have abandoned it themselves due to not being an instant success. Additionally Dawngate used a very similar system to Leagues free to play model using ‘Waypoints’ as its paid for currency and would be very easy to implement just like in League with ‘Riot Points’. As a person who has put a fair amount of money into League of Legends I myself know that this method is very profitable when people enjoy the game immensely, which all current Dawngate fans do and did. Reason 4: Staffing: One major problem with this idea is that you most likely do not have to staff to spare on such a large project. My solution to this would be to hire the staff of Waystone that originally worked on the game. Their passion for the game I am sure still burns strong if the level of passion they showed at the time was anything to go by. This would allow the game to continue with the original team and keep its original feel and would allow you to still dedicate all your current staff to League of Legends. Again, I understand how huge an ask this is of you even as the biggest moba company around but please take the time to at the very least consider this idea as Dawngate could truly revitalise the moba genre, it simply needed more time than EA would give it. I eagerly await any response. Yours sincerely, Isaac Richardson, 17 UK And the rest of the Dawngate community.
After writing the letter I realized I probably have very little chance of getting the game rebooted by a new company so I thought I'd post it here. I intend on emailing this to them but i want to see how everyone here feels about it. If you have the time and want to proof reading and any addition are greatly appreciated. Isaac Richardson, 17
(End post)
Again I know its a lot to ask (and a lot to read) but please, seriously consider this, not just for the community but for the moba scene as a genre and even as a profitable venture.
Whilst this was on reddit I also had time to consider other options. If this is too much to ask of you I understand but as a compromise you could add a couple of the shapers from DG as playable characters in LoL.
Well it was worth a shot regardless of your response. StatickTrickster [zombie-nunu-tears]
