New Champion Idea: Beon, The Forging Lord

I've posted some of my Champion ideas on a wordpress blog before just to see what some of my friends thought, so after hearing them out and making a few changes I decided I should probably go ahead and post some of my ideas on here. I regrettably am not a skilled artist, so I don't have any art to show my design off, but hopefully, you'll get the image I'm going for.

One of my ideas was Beon, The Forging Lord. The name is subject to change as I've changed it like 5 times already. It could be Master of the Forge, the Legend Forger, Soul of Forging, etc. I don't have any official lore for this guy yet, but I was thinking that he should be someone ancient who was reborn or sleeping until now and he used to forge weapons for heroes throughout the ages. For example, he might have made Orion's Hammer, the hammer Poppy Carries or Avarosa's Bow (Ashe's weapon). Ancient Weapons with no clear origin would be revealed to be Beon's work. Now he's returned to test the heroes of our age. Beon wants to forge a final master piece for a hero to lead the world to unity and peace, a world that has no need of weapons. Alternately I thought that Beon could be kinda evil and he takes the souls of warriors and forges them into weapons and that's how he forges such amazing craft. I personally like the good guy lore idea better. I can develop this further.

General Idea (might want to read abilities first): This champion is supposed to work a bit like udyr in that you can put 5 points in any of your abilities and each ability essentially changes the champions mode and how he plays. Unlike Udyr, I place more limitations in the form of mana cost per attack, 5 second cooldown in between modes as well as a 1 second animation time, and a stacking system for his passive. These numbers may all need tweeking to balance him better, but I feel that thematically the moves make sense are very cool design wise. Beon is a blacksmith/master of weaponry. He makes all of his weapons and he gains effects based on the weapon he is using. I think he could lane top or adc depending on how you want yo build him. If you want to be a carry, go bot and build your typical adc items, puting your points in Q and E first. If you want to be able to take some hits while dealing a fair amount of damage, the go top, build some defensive stats and max W and R first. Half his weapons are ranged and half of them are melee, but you shouldn't think too much about that (look at Jayce or Elise). There are literally so many build options. His Q and W will scale hard off AD while, E and R have some AP scaling if you want mixed damage (or if you’re feeling brave, go AP Beon). I wanted a champion that’s rewarding to experiment with and rewarding to play well. Because of the 5 second CD on switching weapons, you’ll realistically only be able to switch once during a fight and that switch could screw you or help you dominate. It’s also important to keep track of when you get you legendary weapons so you can try to fight around that time (there will be an indication to your opponent that the legendary weapon is ready for forging). I personally see the most potential as an ADC, being able to slow and deal consistent damage in fights is huge. Then when the fight is over, I’d switch to heart and soul to get some health back. Top lane, I’d stick with heart and soul mostly to keep up with sustain, but when its time to fight, I’d switch to the lance to hunt them down. Or engage while you have the shield and then switch to sword and shield to sustain through the fight. I think the potential and fun of this champion shows pretty well. Abilities:

Passive: Forge Mastery- every time Beon forges a weapon (switches weapons) he gains a mastery stack. After reaching 15 stacks, Beon’s next forge will be a legendary weapon, gaining bonus effects. Forging has a slight 1 second animation and Beon cannot forge a new weapon for 5 seconds after forging (meaning you are stuck with a weapon for 5 seconds after forging it). After a legendary weapon’s duration is up, Beon’s weapon will revert to the default form (example: Dragon Arc will revert to Bow of Cinders). Forging costs 50 mana.

Q: Bow of Cinders- Beon forges a bow (550 range). Toggled on, the bow deals bonus fire damage over 3 seconds (does not stack, but refreshes) at the cost of mana per attack (like Jinx’s Fishbones). Bonus physical damage: 30/40/50/60/70 +10% AD. Mana cost per attack: 30/35/40/45/50. *Legendary Weapon: Dragon Arc- Beon forges the mighty Dragon Arc bow (650 range) which ignite all enemies between him and the target he attacks dealing bonus fire damage to all enemies over 3 seconds. Duration:4/5/6/7/8 seconds. Costs 50 mana to forge. Bonus physical damage: 35/50/65/80/95 +20% AD.

W: Heart and Soul- Beon forges a sword and Shield (melee range) gaining bonus armor and magic resist. Toggled on, this weapon grants on hit healing at the cost of mana per attack. Bonus Armor and MR: 5/10/15/20/25 + 10% of bonus armor/mr. healing: 20/30/40/50/60+20% bonus AD. Mana cost per attack- 20/25/30/35/40+10%bonus AD. *Legendary Weapon: Aether King- Beon forges the great sword Aether King, which critically strikes every attack and restores mana (this weapon does not have the bonus armor and mr that Heart and Soul have). Duration: 4/5/6/7/8. Costs 50 mana to forge. Critical strike damage:70/80/90/100/110%. Mana restored: 10/20/30/40/50+ 5%missing mana.

E: Chilling Rod- Beon forges an ice staff which shoots icicles (500 range) which slow enemies. Toggled on, the slow is increase and applied in an area (200 range) around the target at the cost of mana per attack. Slow:5/10/15/20/25% for 2 seconds. Increased slow: 10/20/30/40/50% for 2 seconds. Mana cost per attack: 10/25/40/55/70. *Legendary Weapon: Cryocore Cannon- Beon forges a powerful freezing cannon(550 range) which stuns a target after 3 attacks and deals bonus ice damage. Duration:4/5/6/7/8 seconds. Costs 50 mana to forge. Stun duration:1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 seconds. Bonus magic damage: 20/30/40/50/60+40%bonus AD+ 60%AP.

R: Gallant Charger- Beon forges a lance and shield (melee+50) which grants Beon a shield on his next attack every 16/15/14/13/12 seconds, lasting 4 seconds. Toggled on, each attack grants bonus movespeed at the cost of mana per attack and deals lightning damage to enemies that attack you every 3 seconds. Shield: 50/60/70/80/90+10% bonus health. Movespeed:10/20/20/40/50%. Magic damage: 50/60/70/80/90+20%bonus AD+40%AP. Mana cost per attack:10/30/50/70/90. *Legendary Weapon: Final Tempest- Beon forges the majestic Final Tempest lance. Beon’s first auto attack with this weapon dashes him to enemy target dealing area lightning damage on dashed target and reduced lightning damage over duration. Duration:4/5/6/7/8 seconds. Costs 50 mana to forge. Dash Range: 700. AOE 350. Initial magic Damage: 30/45/60/75/90+20%bonus AD +60%AP. magic damage:5/10/15/20/25+10%AP per second.

The toggling seems like it could be a little tedious to work with, especially when you're consistently shifting weapons in lane. Remember Ashe used to have a toggled on her q, but they removed it because it felt clunky and unrewarding for the mana cost. I would make it something like every 2-3 attacks in each form so that it has a bit more counterplay. Though I think having one of them as a toggle wouldn't be too bad, just not all of them. Also remember the most redeeming factor of Udyr's stances is not just the persistent effect, but the immediate effect as well. I think having some kind of immediate effect (whether it be a damage nuke or cc) whenever you activate a legendary weapon would make a really awesome "high" moment for the player! Overall a really neat design. Actually if I had the time I would gladly draw him for you. If I still see your concept floating around in a week or so I could try and help you out with the look if you like.
