That One Gargoyle

Galio is one of my favorite champions that doesn't seem to get a whole lot of love from Riot and I hope that changes. One concern I have with him is that he doesn't feel like a tank at all, more like some type up "Up front and in your face" burst mage. He's labeled as a tank and he's a gargoyle, who protect and defend the things they care about. When I play Galio I don't feel like I'm protecting my team, more like I'm just murdering the enemy and I think it's his passive that ruins it the most.

What do you guys think can be done with Galio to make him both viable and feel like a defender? One I idea I had was to change his passive to be more supportive and here's an example.

Runic Protection: Galio gains bonus armor and magic resist from the items he buys. Additionaly, for each ally champion near Galio his armor and magic resist are increasingly reduced and spread among them.

I think a passive like that would make him a strong top lane pick or even a support and revive him into the meta. I don't think this is the only thing to do about Galio but it's a start. Tell me what you guys think about this idea or if you guys have any of your own. My favorite faction is Demacia and I long for the day when all of them are viable.
