Taric's identity ruined!
Taric is supposed to be about gems but now he's some celestial thing like Bard and Soraka! even his E isn't a gem anymore! Also, his title has "shield" in it which is totally stealing Braum's thunder ! Thoughts ?! >.<

"Guy who likes gems" was never really a particularly good leading trait to develop a multi-faceted personality. The animations and visuals bring a lot more action to Taric himself. All the gem stuff is still there in his abilities, but I think cut a fair bit more refined in how it reflects the beauty of gem stones and drawing out that power over smashing someone with colorful rocks.
As a fan of the basic ideas that went into Taric's original lore, I'd say his new kit and what I've seen from the comic polishes all of the best traits of that lore (dignified soul, the original all-around-good-guy, fabulous) while giving him more of a personable story and visuals.
Gems are now more how he does stuff, not who he is, is how I'd put it in short.
