Master Yi Rework Concept
Anyone who's played as or against a Master Yi at least once could tell you he's got his share of issues with his current kit.
To name a few:
- Feast or famine.
- Heavily gold-gated, thereby making him heavily farm/kill reliant (see point 1 above)
- Low counterplay, frustrating to play against.
- Apparent coding inconsistencies with his Q (I WAS IN ALPHA!)
- Low skill expression, a simple point and click melee autoattacker.
I've been brainstorming for a while now on possible kit reworks for him, and here's one I hit upon. Obviously this is subject to heavy tweaking.
P: Every time Master Yi damages an enemy champion, his AD increases for a duration. Stacks to a cap, refreshes duration upon damaging, all stacks fall off at once upon duration completing. (Haven't decided if I want this to be a % or flat increase yet. % would encourage late game damage builds, while flat would have more consistent performance.)
Q: Alpha Strike: Now a targeted circle. Master Yi becomes untargetable upon cast and rapidly strikes every enemy within the circle within a set time frame (meaning it will not take longer to finish casting no matter how many enemies are in the circle). Activating this ability again during the duration of the attack will allow Master Yi to target any spot within the circle and a small radius just outside of the area of effect. Master Yi will land at the designated spot upon finishing the attack. Every enemy champion hit lowers the cooldown of this ability by an amount (tbd). Champions and monsters take full damage, minions take half. (applies on-hits?)
Empowered Q: Radius is doubled.
W: Meditate: Pretty much the current live version with possible tweaks. (AD ratio on heal/damage reduction? Numbers tweaks)
Empowered W: Can now move while channeling, still unable to take other actions while channeling.
E: Wuju Style: Active: Activate to empower one of Master Yi's basic abilities, can empower itself. Passive: Every 8/8/6/6/4 auto attacks Master Yi does a bonus autoattack for 50% damage. This attack applies on hits and does a percentage of the targets missing HP as bonus damage (physical/magical? True damage would be too strong here, i think)
Empowered E: Number of attacks required to bonus attack is half of normal for a duration (tbd)
R: Highlander: Master Yi receives a large burst of movement speed and attack speed (movement speed decays) for a duration (tbd). Reset all of Master Yi's basic abilities and any basic ability cast for the duration of the ultimate is empowered. (Does the movement speed decay fully or to a reduced amount?)
I believe this kit will allow Master Yi a more flexible playstyle and buildpath, while allowing counterplay for his opponents. His Q will allow for skill expression and the ability to set up plays, run away, or close a gap at the cost of a damage cooldown and safety net. It gives the player more control over Yi's movements, and allows opponents to see his area of effect and play accordingly. Ideally, i think the cooldowns of all of his abilities should be increased moderately, since now each ability carries a larger impact.
