It looks more like a depiction of the two groups that the sides of Summoner's Rift are based off of. See how they're similar to turrets, but actually look like people?

It looks like the rift had two sides that once respected each other. Notice the kneeling/bowing of the people in the middle of the two turrets? The two sides had a falling out and this symbol of their peace was destroyed.
