Oh, you mean the "Half-arsed Arclight Mordekaiser skin with the cheesy particles and the 'we had to change the background because offended' splash art?"

Seriously, if you like the skin then I'm cool with it. However, a champion whose fans have been waiting four years deserves something much more awesome than that skin, mostly as a mea culpa from Riot for not getting their stuff together sooner (planned and scrapped reworks and all). Same goes for Blood Moon Zilean and whatever they have planned for Kassadin.

Honestly, I rarely take issues with Riot's choice of skin recipients, most of the skins are awesome! ...but I was definitely more than a little bit miffed when Ezreal got a 750 RP skin recently. (Not because he got yet another skin, but because I play him and really want more than one skin with VFX changes).

Two 750 skins in the last year. I also find it highly unlikely he will ever get particle changes since his "ultimate" skin is the only one with them. It's like a trademark to that skin and brings in the $$$$,

I can guarantee he will get a skin with new VFX in the future. The price tag of the ultimate deters all but the most hardcore Ezreal players - A 975 or 1350 RP skin is far more likely to bring in a profit.

But hey, this isn't even about profit, it's about art.

Giving Ezreal two 750 RP skins in a row was definitely our mistake. At the time we were looking for an ADC that would fit into the slot and he made a lot of sense, but going forward with 750s we will do our best to make sure they are more appropriate for each champion and the player expectations before trying to round out a conventional team comp.

We do mess up and when we do we really feel it; I'm not the only one that trawls boards/reddit/S@20 for every bit of feedback. When we disappoint players, that includes a lot of Rioters too! It feels to me that we owe it to players to ensure the next Ezreal skin has some really cool particles.

It takes a lot of courage to own up to mistakes, you have my respect for that.

Honestly, the main thing to look out for on potential 750 RP skins (from the community perspective) are if: a) The Champion is lacking on new particle skins (i.e. MF - has a ton of skins, she only has one that changes particles though, so a 975+ RP skin is probably preferred) b) The Champion is lacking on skins (i.e. Zed - Mass disappointment if a champion that hasn't gotten a skin in a long time gets a 750 RP skin)

Queen of Diamonds Syndra was another skin that made us realise that we really need to make sure the design of 750s support the base particles. Prehistoric Anivia was me trying to solve this issue on a particle heavy champion.

Sometimes champions that haven't had a skin for a while will get a 750 though. Our theory here is that if they otherwise would not have gotten a skin at all in the foreseeable future then this, while potentially disappointing for some, is still the better option. RiotPenguin's choice of Mordekaiser for the King of Clubs is an example of this.

I was thinking like Taric's crystal skin (I meant Bloodstone) Just color all the VFX as red, 975

Blight Crystal could work as a 750 or even a 975 with just an orange color to all the VFX

Wastewalker Kassadin could be a real easy 750 skin that requires no VFX, or you could make it an incredibly snazzy skin and make it Legendary

Just be happy you aren't an Evelynn main. Two 520 skins, a 975 skin (that is definitely 750 quality by today's standards), and then they gave her a 750.

At least Ez has an ultimate. Eve has no skins with any kind of effects changes :(

Yeah, but we all know that Eve's not gonna got any funky particle changing skins until her rework hits. There's that expectation already that she won't get a 975+ skin, but Ezreal doesn't have that. Maining Eve is pretty much resigning yourself to at least another 1-2 years without a cool skin which is unfortunate for sure xD I kinda expected Ezreal to get some nice VFX in a skin post-PFE, but still lacking in that department Q_Q

Ah yes, true. It's probably a list of everyone scheduled for a large visual rework in the near future, and those with kits deemed too toxic to be allowed to excel until their gameplay rework ( Yorick Poppy )

Yorick Urgot Taric Poppy are all in the middle of major reworks. The thinking is that if we released a skin now it wouldn't be fair to sell it because it might be drastically changed once the champ reworks go live.

i like the way eve is. they did do a lil rework back in the day i remeber where she just had a normal stealth that lasted about 1 min and other than a ward shes was usless. shes fun now (though she really needs a lore of sorts)

Yes. Mordekaiser's visual rework is far enough in the future that we wanted to make at least a 750 for him while players wait. However the four previously mentioned champions are too close to do that for.

No need to be^^ I knew he wouldn't be top priority and actually I'm also impatient for the Taric rework since I'm really a Paladin fan :D

Recent reworks have been really good and since there has been a lot of talk about Taric and feedback gathering I am really hopeful that he is going to be an awesome character.

In a similar vein to this, I'm still wondering what the thought process behind making Blood Moon Zilean was. It certainly does not feel like a skin that was:

Worth the four year wait (especially at 975 RP)
Fitting with a "time lord" concept. ("Moon" barely relates to time, and especially NOT in this instance)
All that interesting compared to other ideas floating around (A Dr. Who)

It honestly feels like the skins team, supposedly some of the best artists and modelers in the video game industry, said "let's make a Zilean skin," brainstormed for 10 short minutes, and just chose the best idea out of a pile of very half-assed ideas instead of taking the time to develop a truly awesome concept that would fit a broken rig.

Seriously, that skin feels like a chroma / palette swap with some red effects and a recycled mask.

Do you honestly think that was a fair call though? Up above this post you were talking about how it was a bad idea to give Ezreal two 750.

But at least Ez got 2 skins in one year, and has a bunch of other skins including an ultimate - one of only 3 to have that privilege.

Evelyn has two 520's (basically recolors), a 975 (which is a 750 by modern standards), and you decided to give her a 750? Before Safecracker, Eve hadn't received a skin in 4 years.

And you say it's unfair to Ezreal, but not Evelynn?

Yeah, it's just an unfortunate situation. I feel like out of all the champions she is potentially in the worst spot of all.

Hasn't received anything significant in years (VU was awesome tho - kudos), good enough not to be high priority, but bad enough to not be eligible for new content.

Plus, while I personally like her kit, many people assume she will get a minor kit rework, which means theres no motivation to give her unique particles if they're just gunna change eventually.

I can't imagine her getting reworked for at least another year, probably 2. And she's already had to wait waited 3-4 years just for a 750 skin.

The life of an Eve main is a tough one indeed :(

Personally I want to see every champion who hasn't had a skin for a while to get one as soon as possible! Although realistically that might take some time yet. I did manage to sell the idea of PterAnivia to the team to go with Cho and Renekton which I am really pleased about.

During my interview, when they asked me if I had any questions, I said 'Taric skin where?' and 'When is Lux getting a good skin?'. They showed me some very early concepts for the Taric rework and then showed me the concept for Star Guardian Lux (because I was well NDA'd by that point) and I only then began to realise that Riot really is working hard on this stuff but they also care about doing things as close to 100% right as they can. There are also a whole bunch of setbacks that pop up I would never have expected.
