Udyr Champion Update

Let's talk about Udyr Udyr

He's Riot's only champion without an ultimate. We have the transform champions, Elise and Nidalee, Jayce, and through they have no real 'ultimate', instead they have access to two abilities at level one and six at level three (not including the actual transform ability).

The normal line of action, at the beginning of an Udyr game, a player typically chooses a single 'aggressive' stance (Phoenix or Tiger) to max first, and leave the other one to put points into at level 16 when it hardly matters and only a third point in the ability makes it terrible for fights. (Unless of course it's 3 points Tiger when it's pretty decent for killing towers)

Moral of the story, he's in a bad spot.

New Q: Dominant Spirit: Choose a dominant spirit at the beginning of the game and gain passive bonuses based on spirit chosen. (This decides the stance on your Q.)

Tiger Dominant Passive: Bonus move speed and attack speed.

Phoenix Dominant Passive: Bonus armor and magic resistance that scales with health.

The idea is at level 1 players are locked out of other abilities and forced to choose Q and a respective Dominant. The Q functions exactly like the stances do currently on live, aside from the Dominant passives.

Ultimates (Based on Dominant Spirit)

Dominion (Tiger Dominant Ultimate): Enter a rage for the next ten seconds, gaining increased damage over time and a slow on basic attacks. Udyr gains dominion over all animals during this time, silencing himself and gaining the passives and the actives from Turtle and Bear stance over the duration. (Based on current ability levels)

Bathe In Flame (Phoenix Dominant Ultimate): Unleash a massive Phoenix wave to all enemy targets around you for the next 5 seconds, slowing all enemies caught by 75%, decaying quickly to 10%. While targets are within the Phoenix wave they have their allied vision reduced to the circumference of the wave. 550 range. Ability power ratio: 0.9.

Let's say Udyr supposedly gets a visual update as well, an additional thought could be to have slightly different voice packs for Tiger Dominant and Phoenix Dominant Udyr, the Tiger boasting more aggressive voices, and the Phoenix with more passive. (Think new Nasus vs old Nasus, respectively.)

Please let me know what you think, Udyr is precious and he tries so hard.

Add an item to change the stance mid game possibly to make the player not have to choose their playstyle the whole game. Like Kalista spear

I don't really agree with the fact that Udyr is in a rough spot, to be honest. Although minimal, you can't deny that his kit is unique and each ability allows him to strategize his fights and buildpaths. I've never had trouble with him, so I think he's fine. However, I like your ideas though. Good job overall

I think the lack of an Ultimate is part of Udyr's charm, honestly.

If I were to go in any specific direction with him, it would probably be along the lines of a Kha'Zix-esque evolution system at levels 6, 11, and 16, where you select an ability to gain a bonus effect.

That way you'd preserve Udyr's feel, while still getting a power spike at the same levels that other champions do.

Alternatively, perhaps an effect that comes from activating an ability while it is on cooldown for an empowered, "Ultimate" cast of that feature. So Bear - Bear gives you some sort of huge Bear-related buff, with the "Ultimate" activation being on a longer internal cooldown.
