Arena in league of legends??
Hi,
So I'm an avid LoL fan, I've been playing for a few years, and I also started playing Blizzard's game Hearthstone a few years ago. I was asking myself: what is the most fun to me in video games, the answer to which is pretty obvious: the drive to win. This drive is pretty present in league ranked because obviously, you want to rank up, but it lacks a direct reward and impact if you lose that you can find in other games - which is where Hearthstone's arena system comes in. To those unfamiliar with it, it is a game mode where, after paying a small fee upon 'entering the arena', you get to draft a new deck and try to win as many games as possible, and get better rewards as you win more games. If you lose three games you're out and you'll have to pay the fee again to re-enter the arena. So yeah, I was imagining this sort of system in LoL: you enter an 'arena' with a premade team or as a solo player by paying a small fee, for example with blue essence, and then you play as many games as you can without losing more than 3 times, for example. If you're a solo player you could just get matched with people of similar rank and the same amount of wins (it could work kind of like flex where both solo players and premade play together). The loot system would work really well with this as it offers a variety of different types of loot, thus allowing players to get more varied + better rewards as they win more games. It could also provide those players who have a ton of unopened chests and not enough keys to open them a way to obtain more keys!
I fully understand that this could be very difficult to implement just because of matchmaking and the wide variety of skill levels (it won't be fun for anyone if a silver pre-made has to face a master pre-made) but you could maybe try it out in the rotating game modes?
So yeah, this was literally just a shower-thought but I was getting hyped just imagining the pressure you'd get at your tenth game (if it were to be a 12-win cap!) - and the reward of winning it!
Thanks for reading this, sorry for the long post, and I hope it might be a thing one day!

ps: I'm adding a poll to see what other people think of the idea.
