Another "Oh noes, terribad Fiora!" thread
So there have been a lot of threads relating to the Fiora rework (Concerning both her gameplay AND her aesthetics) and I wanted to weigh in.
First, I am not a fan of her gameplay change. I'm not entirely sure why they felt she needed tweaking, but it feels as though it stems from an outcry of "OP CHAMPION IS OP!" While I agree that she can be an extremely devastating, a lot of that stems from her opposition and how they play. If you have a bad player, or someone who is just having an off day, she can become fed and snowball rather quickly. Being as item-reliant as she is, that can easily make her nigh untouchable.
This would, understandably, make her seem overpowered; however, any champion in the hands of a skilled player can seem overpowered. I've had match-ups with Quinn, for example, where she would demolish everyone. On the flip side, I've seen her played terribly. Blitzcrank support can be amazing, or it can be horrible. A champion is only as good as the player controlling them.
I feel that Fiora was in a good place and a rework was frivolous and unnecessary. Take my opinion with a grain of salt, because it heavily biased, I will admit. While I enjoy trying out new champions and roles, I primarily stick to support, simply because I don't have the mindset for damage dealing. Having said that, however, I found myself thoroughly enjoying Fiora, and I feel as though I'm quite competent and -- dare I say -- good with her. My best match was a 3v3, having two bots for teammates. I secured a single-handed win going 32/2/0. I'm still not entirely sure how I managed it, but it happened. She is a true Assassin, relying on quick strikes and getaways. She's powerful, but easily shut down if caught out of position or played badly. I honestly cannot wrap my head around why they feel the need to rework her kit, but I find myself lamenting the loss of one of my favourite champions.
The other point, which has been harped on again and again, is her art design. I know Riot is going for a more "stylized" visual, but her new artwork and in-game models are simply awful. I don't claim to be artistic enough to do any better, but I don't know what they're going for. It's one thing to redesign a champion's kit, but a visual rework that completely overhauls their look as well? They truly should have introduced an entirely new champion. This is not a rework; this is not an overhaul; this is a completely new character with no ties to her former self. Her eyes are far too large, her features too pronounced (i.e. Her chin and cheekbones), and the redesign of her skins are laughable.
I know my opinion won't change the inevitability of a loss of a good champion, but I still feel like pitching my two cents in. This is technically a free-to-play game, so I'm not "losing" anything. I am, however, one very disappointed customer.
RIP
