A perspective on complaints towards Chromas costing RP

As an avid fan of Riot's new 'Chroma' idea which are somewhat like skins, I cannot help but notice countless people complain about their RP cost. For the most part it is believed that they should be available for IP, as an extension of the vast free-to-play content that LoL has. Some others have voiced how some or all of the Chromas should be reserved for master, which, to be quite honest I can see as the better of the two views. However, my stance on this is that Riot has done the RIGHT thing in making these Chromas available for RP only, fairly priced in bundles that ALL TOGETHER cost less than a 720 skin.

Lets get some obvious points that I think we as the LoL community have come to overlook:

  • No one is forcing you to buy this new content, saying "rito pls, you're too greedy" is an absolute fallacy considering that none of these items are vital to your gameplay at all, if you really have your panties in a twist, then go and make a one time only 5 dollar purchase to end your keyboard warrior plight.
  • League of Legends is a massive online game of high quality featuring a wide range of F2P content with absolutely no pay-to-win features, complaining that Riot isn't expanding on this already large amount of F2P content is almost insane.
  • Have you forgot that after so much time playing this game, some people actually do like to give monetary tribute to the developers that have brought us so much? Furthermore that this non-required 'tribute' of sorts is also a transaction for a virtual item?
  • If Chromas were available through IP, many would complain that now everyone has them and that they are far from exclusive, as opposed to RP purchases which would prevent people from buying all recolors just because they can and have endless IP.
  • Possibly most important and most well-forgotten point: IP gains might seem easier to those with time, here's some crude math concerning IP gains vs. value:

THESE CALCULATIONS OMIT 1st WIN BONUSES

20 minute game: 64IP (win), 44IP (loss) 30 minute game: 88IP (win), 58IP (loss) 40 minute game: 111IP (win), 73IP (loss) 55 minute game (max): 145IP (win), 94IP (loss)

Consider the average time per game is 40 minutes, therefore with a 50% winrate avg., one can expect an ip per game avg. of 92.

Putting this value into perspective with RP using the purchase of a 6300ip champion (975 RP), the monetary value of which can be found using the $10 RP card as a standard (as it is the most common form of $ to RP purchase):

$10.00 / 1350 = $0.07 per single RP $0.07 x 975 = $7.22 for 6300IP's worth

Now for argument's sake, here's the math for the avg. amount of time to make the same amount of IP if one was to play the game and save up IP (with reference to the values found in the calculations above): (If 92ip avg. per game and 40mins per avg. game)

6300 / 92ip = 68.5 games, therefore 69 games will relinquish a rough approximate of 6300 ip if 1st wins are ignored

69 x 40 = 2760 minutes, which is 46 hours

Here's the punchlineVi: Would you rather play 46 hours of League to attain what could be bought in seconds with a $7.22 value?

Time is money, people. Everyone suffers from a certain degree of impatience and/or a lack of time, sure LoL is fun even during grinds, but I for one would rather be playing League with the content I like in the first place.

Value your time highly, because although you might use it wisely having good fun on lol, you could have more quality experiences and also save time by dropping money on RP and rewarding yourself and Riot :)

-Rant END-

I'm sorry for the rushed rant, I'm just quite irritated at what I consider to be some quite insolent accusations against Riot being "greedy" or "low", which are likely to have been perpetuated by people forgetting the realities stated in my above points.

I'd love to see some comments and other views concerning this controversy, please keep the discussion civilized and not personal by any means, thanks.
