In China bones are taboo.
Because china doesn't allow for any skulls or skeletons in their country. so not even a little skull on a shoulder piece would be allowed

This is actually false, as there are many instances of Chinese made media containing these things. However, Chinese law prohibits anything that may incite superstition, and so most video game companies trying to pass through the Minister of Culture's rigorous overview often self censor pretty harshly to get their material passed quickly.
This is untrue as MtG was forced to remove every instance of skulls an skeletons from their card game to get past that. Also Keep in mind Riot is owned by Tencent (a chinese company) who probably keeps Riot informed of what they can and can not have.

Magic is different altogether on several accounts. First of all, Chinese law prohibits material that threatens Chinese religion in the nature of promoting cults and superstition, which is a general category that pretty much anything supernatural would fall into, including skeletons. I'm not sure about you, but MTG has ALWAYS had issues in this department, even in the US, where people completely unfamiliar with the game mistake it for tarot or some other occult endeavor. In China, this unfamiliarity with the game, coupled with all the depictions of magic, witches, wizards, and undead, would 100% be a cause for alarm for the Minister of Culture when he's reviewing material for release in China. This is most likely where the censorship from China originated from with regards to skeletons in MTG, and could also have been a lot of self censorship from Wizards of the Coast's end as well, considering they've been known to censor themselves with controversial parts of their game (the entire renaming of Demons to Horrors fiasco in the 90s due to religious pressure). Since this general law regarding supernatural elements is so broad, it's also up to the whims of whoever is reviewing it as well, and if the Minister is having a bad day, he may be particularly nit picky about things that Chinese companies themselves have gotten away with. I'm not sure about you, but if skeletons were taboo, then why do they appear so frequently in Chinese movies and media? I've seen at least 3 translated, super popular Chinese Hollywood level blockbusters that use skulls gratuitously, and they certainly weren't censored for it. That being the case, skeletons and skulls can't be taboo in China, or they would have shut down their own media engines depicting the images. So that means that the censorship on this kind of material on foreign media is either very strictly monitored specifically because it's foreign, or its simply an act of a company wanting to quickly pass review and self censoring so that they can launch with timely deadlines in China.
Like the others said, skeletons & skulls are taboo in China. And to be fair, they have to have them removed from every country.
because china. bones are taboo there or something like that
SPOOKY SCARY SKELETONS SEND SHIVERS DOWN YOUR SPINE
If I remember hearing correctly, the reason there isn't(and the reason they changed karthus's face) is that there is a taboo against skulls/skeletons in China.
What about the skeleton Cho and Kog skins?
What about the skeleton Cho and Kog skins?
They're not human.
Ah, right. Interesting, haven't heard of that before.
And also, they're probably categorized under fossils and not quite skeletons.
Because showing human bones/skeletons is not allowed in certain regions of the world (China).
