Lore Quick Bio
Saamsora is one of the last surviving Darkin from an age long past. Vain, proud, and infuriated at being sealed in a book for millennia. During the downfall of the Darkin, the mage Saamsora was sealed in her personal tome and sealed in a Shuriman tomb, there she was later uncovered by a Noxian exploration group. Unfortunately for Saamsora, her host was frail and innadiquate and would crumble under her full magic, thus she was forevermore bound to a body she could barely inhabit.
"I have no patience for mercy, it is beneath my care."
Raison d'etre:
See a need fill a need, Saamsora was a foray into designing a champion in a very precarious position, She is meant to be a Juggermage, historically a very hard to balance role due to its design fantasy of being a hard to kill high damager. To top that off i wanted to make Saamsora have long ranges, this left one very large design philosophy that needed to be filled, If it is hard to kill, it needs vulnerability, and if it has range, it intrinsically has less opportunity to kill it. So this left me with a very painful problem to solve, give my champ weaknesses. To fix this, the typical balance for artillery ranges is to make the user get into melee range for damage (ziggs) or sustain (xerath), great, easy to do. But also, your Juggermages (Vladmir, Swain) have a limiting factor of either mana or scalings, well, that allows me to integrate defensive scaling via (almost) requiring mana to be built to manage costs but to also incentivice this by adding minor combat stats from mana (defense and sustain) and to tie sustain to combat to improve the counter play feel of having your damage stick more effectively but still allowing Saamsora to heal meaningfully. To give depth of play, the channeled effects of her abilities gives her both skill expression and counterplay, whenever Saamsora tries to use her range, she channels, and must fire at end of that channel, this gives expression to both parties. Also, her execute requires her to stay near her opponent for 1.5 telegraphed seconds while slowed and unable to use her other abilities. This, alongside her melee range auto's and empowered auto passive means she has to risk life and limb to deal her full kit of damage. To also enhance the feel I've tried to produce with Saamsora, giving her a high moment with ult, the ult itself deals no damage, it instead gives her a "I counter played you fairly" button, it gives a high of both insta casting channeled effects and improving ms.
Lore reasoning The Darkin are themed to be similar to the four horsemen and consist of War (aatrox) Death (Rhaast) and strife(?) (Varus's bow) so Saamsora has a lore friendly spot, and that leaves what Saamsora's theme should be, the Darkin theme is sustain and continuous presence, so I needed to cater to that. But they are also missing a mage.
Inspiration for the name comes from the Hindi/Buddhist term Samsara, the cycle of death and rebirth (it also has an easy to access to the common naming convention of to "A's" in the name
