Community Beta- How its driven me from LoL

I used to be on GD every day. I would read, post, upvote, downvote, and generally contribute to the community. Seeing a good red post would make my day, sometimes make my week.

I would play LoL more or less every day, without fail. Not for hours and hours, but at least a few games every day. Being able to talk on the forums and read on the forums made me want to play more, and hearing about crazy things that people did made me want to experience some of that craziness myself.

And, up to this point, it might not seem like I am getting to site feedback, but that preface was necessary to what follows.

The Community Beta, along with AMAs on Reddit, created a reduced red presence on GD. Which led me here, roughly seven months ago. I tried then, and I have tried again since to get into the Community Beta as a means of discussion, but its organizational format, combined with how difficult it is to follow discussion drove me away from talking about LoL online with people. I couldn't even bring myself to post because of how discussion seems to be all over the place to me because of the lack of any way to go from oldest->newest posts like GD.

The format of the Community Beta being so similar to Reddit (a site that I absolutely detest) combined with having no way to format it in a true, complete chronological order drove me away from discussing LoL online at all. Which, had the surprising effect of driving me away from LoL in general.

I loved talking with people on general discussion, even when I vehemently disagreed with them, and I loved watching a conversation develop page after page, but there isn't that same development here. The posts here are anarchic in their lack of order, even when sorted by newest because comments on original posts in a thread are part of a different order unto themselves.

I've been playing LoL since July 2010, just after Xin Zhao came out, and without the ability to discuss it in a way that I really enjoy, I've stopped playing as much. I still play with friends on the weekend sometimes, but I'm not excited for it like I used to be.

Reds leaving GD for Reddit and the Community Beta, two places I have no desire to post or even attempt to follow a discussion on, slowly drove me away from LoL. And, unless this Beta gets some very significant changes to how the posts can be read, I simply don't see that changing.

This is my first, and quite possibly last, post on the Community Beta. I'll try to follow this to see if anyone says anything or feels anything like I do, and I would love to hear from a Rioter on this. I like traditional forum formatting, and this formatting is just not something that I can use.

Well they are testing a "show as flat" option to have a format similar to GD and the old forums but I think you're detesting it a bit much. Rioters sort of moved to this because this is the platform they're hoping to improve and make standard (As well as migrate from Reddit when it's possible to make official posts here, I'd assume).

Though one thing you have to keep in mind is that this IS a beta and that it's still heavily a WIP. However, it changes greatly in very short spans of time. While I don't fault you for not wishing to use it (I was certainly against it at first as well), I do hope you'll give it another go after more changes are made. This is a WIP and really, they're doing good work on it so far.
