Why are NA and EU boards separated?

It would be easier to discuss things if both EU and NA could share the same board. If I post on either one, I'll only reach out to half of the western community.

What's the purpose of splitting them up? There aren't ping-issues at internet forums...

My question is why can't the website remember I'm in North America? I'm not running a proxy, I've never had an EU account, and, still, when I go to log in to the forums, I am invariably directed to a EU sign in page, which does not recognize my username or password. How did the EU even get into my little universe? I've never touched anything EU related around here, as far as I know. Anyway, it's very annoying that signing into these forums always ends up being a thirty-seven part process for me.
