Boards as a whole have very little activity

The amount of comments / views on pretty much any discussion, even riot-created ones, is SIGNIFICANTLY lower than anything pre-boards. What can be done to change this? Is everyone still so unhappy with the way these new boards operate?

I for one am incredibly tired if checking the forums maybe twice or three times in the same day to sadly see the same topics that have been there literally all day with almost nothing new added to them. This has nothing to do with those who are active on the forums, but I remember a time when GD could keep someone entertained for hours on end.

What is the hits per hour on the new boards? I'd legitimately be surprised if it were even 15-20% the amount of old GD alone. I guess the whole point of this thread is, what exactly was to be gained with the forum change? Were these changes worth the tremendous loss in activity? I don't know if I would say so.

I simply don't like the way the boards look. all dank and cluttered... like a cave

Because everyone hates the new boards. Everyone told Riot not to change them like this. But what did Riot do? They did it anyways, sat around for the next few hours giving each other congratulatory hand jobs and haven't looked back since.

I honestly don't understand that this thought process would have any place in any business in America. How long has it been, like 3 or 4 months? And it doesn't even come remotely close to touching the amount of activity of the old boards. I honestly don't even have that big a problem with the new boards, I just really want to understand how the traffic could be hilariously low compared to the old "inferior" (had to be, if it had to be changed) forums.

Pretty much this.

There was nothing "wrong" with the old forum style-Riot just changed...just because. They tried to make it Riot reddit, but we already have reddit. If I want reddit, I go there. If I want a forum, I want a forum.

If you change the sorting to "new" (chronological by posting date) or "recent" (GD style) instead of "hot," you'll get a much wider variety of posts.

"much wider" basically refers to the amount that would appear on one page, seeing as it takes hours to push things off of one of those pages. This is even true for things that have very few views and comments, such as this thread we are talking in. I am well aware of this, and it does not address the root problem of tremendously low activity.

Ok so let's say open a thread at 12 pm, and the front page of any of those sort methods has 30 threads on it (probably the wrong number, but whatever). Regardless of how many views or comments or general interest that thread generates, it will more than likely still be sitting on the front page of whatever board it's on at 1 pm, and could even be there by 2 or 3. The point is, remember how quickly GD would explode with new threads? I would guess it would be hundreds (maybe even thousands in a good hour) of threads an hour, every hour. All I'm saying is that new content on these boards isn't coming close AT ALL to the old forums. Doesn't matter if it's apparently easier to use if there's barely anyone using them.

That's because the default sorting is 'hot,' which doesn't change that quickly. If you change the sorting to "Recent" or "New" you'll see a lot more diversity in threads / it'll move faster.

By no means does it move as fast as GD did. But It's not as slow as the Hot sorting would lead you to believe.

That's because GD was where literally everything went. Their were no sub-categories that important stuff went to. Literally everything was in GD. We now have around 6 different sub-categories that threads can be put in that can gaon interest being, Gameplay and Balance, Esports, General Discussion, Story and Art, Maps and Modes, and Boards Feedback with a couple other categories. Not everything is in one forum now. Which I'm sure Riot likes this a lot more since they can get specific feedback from where they are looking for it and threads with good feedback aren't lost within a minute or two.

EDIT: and I'm not denying that the forums aren't less active because they are but that is a contributing factor as well as that the default setting is "Hot" so most likely the majority of the community besides the fairly active forum goers only see the Hot Threads which stay Hot because that's all they see and stay on the main page for a week.
