Attempts to connect to spectator server fail constantly

I must have missed the boat when someone addressed this issue, or no one has said anything, but every time I try to spectate a game it crashes soon after connecting or just sits in load screen until the connection times out. And I know it's not just my ISP, as this happens to a large majority of my friends, who all have various ISPs. Does anyone have any information on this? I'm just curious, as it is disappointing to not be able to catch the last 5 minutes of a friend's close game while I'm waiting to queue up with them.
