[Feedback] New Posts Auto-Select "Site Feedback" Category Bad Choice?
I did this myself by accident then noticed a lot of others doing the same: When you make a new post, the default is to select the "site feedback" category. So if you forget to actually choose a category, chances are you will incorrectly be posting in the wrong category. It seems to me it would be better if there were no category selected by default and it required you to consciously choose one before posting. Is this possible?
BIG EDIT: I realized I was wrong. It does exactly what I suggested by default. I must have somehow selected "site feedback" by accident. Maybe it's worth looking into how you can modify the interactivity with that pull down menu so fewer accidents are made? I still think others make this mistake because I see a bunch of posts in site feedback that shouldn't be there and it is the first on the pulldown menu so I could see accidents resulting in posting here.
EDIT AGAIN Ok, I was double wrong. After more thorough checking, I see that if you go to the community beta home feed (including all categories), a new post will default to no category selected and require an intentional selection. If you are looking at the feed for a specific category (eg: site feedback), new posts will default to that category.
I suppose it's more of a preference, but for myself, I've recently been browsing one category and wanted to make a post in another category. In my opinion, defaulting to the category you're viewing is a bad choice because for people like me, it results in wrong category mistakes when I forget to intentionally choose whereas if you ALWAYS default to no category selected, you will never be able to forget. I think the cost of a potential small convenience is outweighed by the benefit of preventing more impactful posting mistakes.
Let me know what you think forum developers! =)
