There is no reply context in the new discussion board threads

I generally like the new look of the new discussion boards, but one thing that really frustrates me as a user is that there is no context regarding replies. Reddit and other discussion forums indent or provide collapsing/expanding mechanisms to see what replies follow from a comment. With these boards, it's just one huge stack of comments, and I as a user am unable to decipher what reply pertains to what comment. For example, in the Bard Q&A, I navigate from Riot comment to the next, and there is zero context as to what question is being answered or what comment is being replied to.

This is a major deal breaker for me, as it is a significant usability detriment.

Are you in discussion or chronological view? What browser are you on?

I see replies nested inside one another and the colour alternate.

Sounds like your in chronological view. Switch to Discussion view and that should solve your problem. It's right above the first comment in the list in a kind of bronzish yellow.
