I was actually going to make a thread about this~ I agree with said posts; classic color scheme is much easier on the eyes.
To be honest as beautiful as this palette is (One of my passions is color theory and I can see the green and orange being used in other applications)--I'm not sure it is an appropriate use for a 'forum'. We are here to read and digest a lot of written content so such a contrasting combination of light and dark really kinda throws it off. The older classic colors are much more friendly and inviting for the eyes. Simplicity encourages a user to read more and enjoy the experience. Even though Reddit for example has a TERRIBLE aesthetic but iit is easy to read at the very least. That in itself speaks volumes of how important usability trumps design. Don't get me wrong aesthetics are nice but comfort comes first in an application such as this. I am having trouble writing because my eyes are trying diverting themselves away from the muddy colors.
I have always looked up to Riot and your ability to make INNOVATIVE changes to the gaming community and actually make BOLD LEAPS and bounds as to move the digital gaming age FORWARD to a whole new level. Unfortunately I think this is one of the few times you guys might have taken a step backwards. I am reminded old text-based RPG games back in the early 2000's for some reason or maybe a forum for another game. It just feels used or overused...maybe regurgitated--something I've seen before---not the ground-breaking new and inventive LoL I know when it comes to promos and web-based applications. Doesn't feel quite modern.
I KNOW that you guys have a wonderful creative team--its time to challenge/put them to the test and really push those ideas and color theory and concepts and user-friendly usability/interface. Your team is what inspires me to push myself harder and be creative in my everyday life as a designer so please don't disappoint me. At the very least for the sake of the community please consider reworking or updating color options/changes for your loyal players ;]
Thank you for reading (if you have read this far). I am always passionate about this kind of stuff haha so I have a tendency to preach about design.
