Is cursing always toxic?

I just felt like taking a poll on people's opinions of cursing. I feel like in this day in age where cursing is such a prevalent thing to say it is rude would be odd since it does not seem to faze people. Cursing to me is just strong language like the world "hate" is considered to be a stronger version of dislike.So post your feeling down bottom and please take poll.

Nah. I say things like "Wow great fucking play" when the play is really good. "Wow great play" just doesn't sound as good, needs a bit of flavor so we give it the F bomb. It becomes bad when you say things like "shitter" I fucking hate that term.

theres a difference between fuck for dying and saying fuck you to the person that killed you (assuming its not someone you are voice chat custom with or something and he knows you are being playful)

"This beer is so f---ing cold." --fine by me.

"That was the dumbest F---ing ult I've ever seen." -- border-line, you should reword dumb and F if you really need to talk about it. Try to keep offensive words out of the sentence, especially if you're talking about someone else's play or such.

"You're a f---ing idiot."-- hope you get chat restricted.

I would say context is everything. Heck...I just left a game where I had to report TWO of my teammates for cursing out each other. One because the other wouldn't help Leech...and the other blaming him for feeding because he couldn't level properly.

I swear...I hope I never have to play with either of those players ever again. I just want to play a nice game without the toxicity. (Sorry for venting...but I figured this was a good example of toxic cursing.)

Completely depends on context. Cursing is generally insulting when it's just replacing other insulting things, though some people are offended by it regardless.

It depends on whether it is;

  1. Directed at a player
  • "Damnit I fucked up" is at yourself, not others
  1. Interpreted as an insult or not
  • "Fuck you" could be done with a smile and a laugh in response to an impressive play, or as an insult because you think they did something unfair

You can't hear the inflection in someone's voice or see their expression to see what they really mean, so the only context you have to determine how it's meant is in the rest of their chat. You also don't know what is acceptable to others in their culture, so it's always best to err on the safe side and just minimize it. Accompanying any you do use with friendly banter that could not possibly be interpreted as an insult helps (saying "fuck you" every time Nid hits you with a Javelin is worse than "fuck I keep walking into your spear lol").
