This just encourages and makes it easier for people to downvote/upvote without even reading the topic. A lot of this already happens but it makes it even easier when they can do it without even opening thread.
Edit: Showing both the upvotes and downvotes separately would also help to show a more accurate representation of votes.

I agree and disagree for the same reason named Trolls. Downvoting troll threads without needing to look at them is good but the downvote trolls do get obnoxious at times. I would love to see what would happen if this would be implemented though.
if you use the FEK (which if I remember right stands for Forum Enhancement Kit) you can get a few tools that make the boards feel more forum-like and you can then actually see the upvotes AND downvotes separately for each thread and post so you can tell how many of each they have gotten.

The forums have a lot of problems like that. Why is it some boards use a completely different method of sorting posts? Some of them are conventional while others are threaded, each reply being directly below the initial post. Inconsistency is strange.
But then I wouldn't have been able to up vote this thread without even opening it?!
