Team Builder is live!

Hey everyone,

Going over the data from the recent Live Beta, the vast majority of players had a lot of fun and provided invaluable feedback. In light of this, we’re going to turn Team Builder back on (and keep it on!) and just continue working on additions to the system through patches.

In this version of Team Builder, we’ve added the following:

  • You can now change summoner spells in a Team Builder Lobby
  • Some buttons now have new sound effects!
  • There’s now a “Match Found” ceremony so that players know they are entering a match

We’ve also heard your feedback regarding matchmaking in Team Builder, and have done the following:

  • Team Builder will use a separate, Team Builder-specific MMR (but, we’ll use Normal MMR values to start off the queue)
  • A fix has been made to matchmaking to weight Summoner Levels more heavily
  • Captains that select “Any Role” will now find potential teammates more quickly
  • A bundle of optimizations to improve match quality overall

Based on your feedback, we’re working on some features for Team Builder that I’ll be happy to discuss in the future; but for now, see you in Team Builder and have fun!

That wait time though... In all seriousness, Team Builder may not be the end all of troll picks, but thank the Riot gods for this game type.

Hey Lyte, if you're still looking around this post every so often, I've got a question/suggestion for you. Would it be possible to have a separate Spectating option from the Play option, where you would look at a list of games you could spectate, instead of just the 5 random Ranked Matches that appear at the front screen?

Although this could probably be applied to any game mode, I was thinking specifically about Team Builder in this instance. I would LOVE to be able to watch games with crazy team comps and watch what might work and what might... not... work.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. And thank you for Team Builder! It's awesome!!! :D

I have an issue with the kick penalty all together...when you are getting people who are going in as Sona Tank Jungle for example...I mean really, you are going to punish someone for utilizing team builder for its exact purpose, which is to weed out trolls and build a successful team. Why would anyone want to use it if I'm going to have to wait longer because I kick someone who is incorrectly labeling themselves

ok has anyone else been getting game lobby has been destroyed? ive been playing premade 5s and after every game it says game lobby destroyed and leaves me at a black screen. its not just me its everyone else in the premade aswell except the host any help?

Riot, you could easily implement team builder into ranked but having players simply Queue up for a specific position, and then champ select will proceed as normal. That way everyones playing the position they want to play, with no disputing whos going where, and can pick based on bans/enemy picks

Changing summoner spells will not unready your team

Except it totally still does. Just played one where our support switched summoner spells and we all had to click ready again.

I wish that it wasn't for only lvl 25s and up because it's not fun being under that lvl and not being able to play who you want.

I get freezes in teambuilder games so I have to restart my computer and it keeps crashing when I reconnect. It happens after I have been in the game after like 2 minutes. Sometimes 1 minute. I have korean voices but it's on EUW.

Is there a bug report thread for Teambuilder? I just had a 20 minute plus queue and never got into a game.

I think that Team builder is great but the time to find a teammate is bit long, but this problem is not that easy to fix so good luck Riot :)

needa fix mid warwicks queue every time im waiting 40 min... and the only ones i do get in, the team are all trolls that throw the game.

I think that this new beta is a good idea, it helps with no arguing and you can really play what and how you want, i think they should keep doing what they are but try and fix the wait times, I feel I have the longest wait times.

Sooo..after testing a few more games I have to say it really doesn´t work out as it is. For most people it´s just a blindpick with a longer q pickwise anyway...and for the few that actually want to try some unique things with their setup there´s a massive hurdle right now:

You should be allowed to change champion and position in the game lobby - as right now, even if you can come to a nice agreement in the lobby on what you would prefer to do there´s no possibility to change anything (appart from lanes ingame). So there´s really no point in having the nice extended lobby-phase if you can´t change anything anyway.

I have a suggestion for team builder. Most people leave after they join a group and see only 1-2 other players there. So maybe make it so that players are provided to captain in bursts.

Thinking of the decreasing the wait time would be nice to know what spots are available.

If I can see what is available I can choose the champion I enjoy in that category. and so can every one else.

putting it at lvl 25 minimum killed team builder usefullness, its fkin useless now. (no one cares (most) about normal games if you can have play in ranked.

and second, removing the forced invitation command for building a team, reduce the amazing fairness or TRY HARD TO WIN reason why the team builder was so amazing, i am glad i can host my own games, but i can turn out to be a jerk if i dont play with a friend, forcing me to behave better, making 2 players accept the new meta i make (sadly dont have friend so even if i know my new meta's works i wont be able to) and already having 2 of the 5 spots filled, and even the bottom lane might be fun or easier since usually people who group in two likes to play together?, witch is amazing for all the other players

everything was soo much better before that team builder change, now you totally killed it, not enough people,,

comparing the poppularity of team builder to urf,,, are you gona erase team builder cause riot failed oh and nerf flair fkin none sence im forced to get jungler,

oh and for new meta's try ADC ARE USELESS might give new ideas adc cant build resistances and need wards to survive and supports are useless too, im support the tower, darn janna shield aint strong enough and my xps got stolen by some dead turd

  • ***Team Builder needs some changes. After you have started the process, that's it. So, If your waiting too long, you can't change your options. You can't quickly invite somebody if they happen to pop on while your in the middle of gathering and waiting on your team. I think you should be able to cancel a pending random spot to invite or change the role for the slot that is taking too long without having to quit the whole queue process. So for instance, I picked top lane but, I've been waiting for an ADC for 5 mins now and my other members are getting irritated and quitting on me so I will have to wait longer. I cant change to the ADC status or other members change to open their current position to make things role a little faster. I might have a friend pop on and I message them to say, hey! I need an ADC. Can you fill for me? Sure, but Now I have to quit the entire ordeal and restart it once again waiting for characters to join, or not remembering new people that you liked while trying in the last match queue. So, You have to write their name down somewhere and hope they didn't get accepted in another match. Just a simple click to always be able to invite and to cancel a pending random to change what you want for your match to make it faster, even if you have to play without a jungler because you couldn't find a match for top it the jungler position. Or, you can just have a friend fill in that slot at the last min. Anyway, Those are my thoughts. I hope there's a way to make it happen. It's really an easy quick fix :)Thanks for listening. Team builder needs some fixes... the queue is too long. Team builder and blind picks should be in the same queue. Also, the team captain and other players should be able to switch lanes or roles AFTER joining, rather than having to quit and do it all over again. Please take into account these considerations.

I had no issues with Team builder during its live beta, but now that I've gotten back to trying it again, I find I'm one of those people getting crazy long queue times every other match. :(

(E.g.: no trouble getting mid mage with Ziggs, then forever getting top tank with Cho'Gath, then no trouble at all getting the same the second time, then can't get mid assassin with Fizz, give up, play him on Dominion instead.)

So I've been having a small problem where I'm getting an "unexpected(or unidentified, I don't remember which word) platform error" if I try to queue up for any non-teambuilder match, if I previously left a teambuilder queue.

Basically my friends had to get off line so I decided to go to ranked instead

I've found that takedowns, wins, and monster/minion kills do not add on to your stats you your profile when playing team builder... :/

This is nice and I find it easier than racing someone to mid. However, there is something weird once I was in-game. I don't know if it's a bug or not but everyone in-game had lagged in and out of the game. Pings were high and fluctuating, the moment you connected back you would only find yourself lagging out and disconnected from the game. Please fix this(if it is a bug) because I would hate to see myself and my friends lagging out of the game.

Hello Lyte,there's one question.I am going to ask bout the team builder is it supposed to give u normal wins??or the wins doesn't officially count? cause I've been playing bunch of games and my normal wins haven't moved.

When entering a teambuilder match, I'd love to see a bar graph or something of the queues...so that I can make an educated pick on what role to fill. I have a few roles that I enjoy best (but generally not "any role"). If I know there are 400 mid/mages waiting, I probably wouldn't choose that...

Team builder searching can't be canceled... We should be able to cancel it like Nunu ult

So that we can search for other roles if the plan is changed, or if we can invite other people.
