Lists of Legends: More of the Champion Teasers You Might’ve Missed (Part Three)

From Orianna to Nami, we released a number of official teaser pieces that tended to be a little more static than recent examples. And with Gnar’s sleek new motion graphic breaking the ice of a still image, we thought it was fitting to share a collection of a ton of teaser art in one place.

Here are the last eight teasers in this list. Let us know if you enjoyed this traipse down memory lane, or if you’d like to see different kinds of lists in the future. As a reminder, these pieces were untitled on release, and we’ve added them here for context, hilarity, or clarity.

In case you missed ‘em, here are Part 1 and Part 2.

8. Shyvana, “This Isn’t Even My Final, Well, Yeah, I Guess It Kind’ve Is, Isn’t It?”

Another comic-style teaser, this one shows off Shyvana’s sheer size as a dragon.

7. Graves, “Full House of Pain,”

For those of you who only read the captions for trivia to use to snag skin cards or stage time at live events, Graves’ shotgun does, in fact, have a name. He calls it, “Destiny.”

6. Xerath, “Live Wire”

Xerath looks a little angry. As angry as someone without a face can look, anyway.

5. Riven, “Blade of the Exile”

Classic fighting game animations partially inspired the particles for Riven’s Dragonblade skin. With her array of animation-canceling moves and chained combos, playing Riven can sometimes feel like playing a coin-op fighter.

4. Talon, “Cloak of Daggers”

Careful observers will note that Talon is wearing his Crimson Elite facemask. It’s a teaser for a launch skins inside the teaser teasing the champion. Teaserception.

3. Leona, “A Different Kind of Warrior”

More trivia: when Leona tags Zyra with Sunlight, Zyra’s model becomes 10% bigger. Because plants.

2. Yorick, “Every New Beginning Comes from Some Other Beginning’s End”

Yorick is probably the only champion with in-game interactions referencing both the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and Monty Python.

(For those of you who don’t want to research that anywhere else, we feel you: Famine, War, Pestilence and Death are the names of his abilities, and the East Altar on the Twisted Treeline chimes “Bring out your dead!”--a common phrase during the Black Death, but also a chant in “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”)

1. Orianna

Here’s a bonus gameplay trick for Ori: if you lose track of yourself or the ball in teamfights, mouse over your splash portrait (normally in the bottom-left of your screen) to cast Command: Protect on yourself).

So, 25 teasers you might not have seen before. There’s every chance we missed a few (some were particularly tricky to track down). Share your favorite teaser arts in the discussion below, and don’t forget to tell us what you think of Lists of Legends while you’re here. Until next time, may all your ultimates end in Pentakills!

Riot should put a teaser for a champ inside of a teaser for a champ, then announce the champ that was teased in the teaser for a different champ as the champ that's being released.

can we get a recap of items we may have missed? like items that no longer exist? i didn't start playing until season 3. i never experienced Force of Nature. also, i remember kage's lucky pick, philosopher's stone, and malady. maybe during the recap of these removed items you can discuss why the changes were made and what replaced it/how the game changed after.

of course.... one could always wiki these removed items. but then again, one could have always googled these missed teasers. sometimes people don't know what they missed until you tell them they missed it. i never would have thought to look up old teasers.. yet i enjoyed reading through them

Back in the day champions used to have purpose and meaning...

Dont get me wrong, I love Gnar, but the teaser for Graves has reminded me of golden relations between some older champions.

Props for giving me Shyvana and Leona feels

Sigh...

This post is absolute proof that Riot's lore department is really lacking these days compared to the past.

When the The Lore Department was working on and updating the Journal of Justice and League Judgements, they were also working on these comics. Now, they're only working on marketing materials (videos, cinematics and comics) and not adding to their stories anymore.

Thanks, Riot.

Isn't that Swain's bird in the last picture for Talon's teaser?

I remember being so hyped for Riven, who still remains at the top of my Favourites, to the point where I won 15 games in a row with her, when she was released. She may be less broken now, but that's more than enough to conquer my lane.

"A broken blade is more than enough for the likes of you."Riven
