Why do I keep playing jungle?

I first started playing this game late season 2 and became a jungle main near the end of season 4 and have been one ever since. I have never been so discouraged to play jungle as I have been this season. I have been flamed game after game after game, even if I am carrying the whole team.

For me, jungle used to feel so much more fun and enjoyable, even when I got flamed for not camping someone's lane or not 1v5 suiciding for the 1% chance play of stealing an objective. I just loved the role for what it was and it relaxed me to play it. I know it's strange to think I loved the role even after being flamed game after game after game in normals for playing something I wasn't good at because I wanted to learn how to play it, and get better at it. A win felt really, really good, and I was addicted to the role.

Now I feel terrible playing jungle even when the game is a lot of fun and isn't a one sided 15-20 minute stomp, which almost never happens in this meta. I don't know if I'm just burned out from playing jungle, being flamed over and over for mistakes that I didn't make, or something else, but it doesn't feel rewarding to play jungle anymore.

Maybe it's the meta, maybe it's the toxicity finally getting to me, but has anyone else had the same feeling this season or in previous seasons?

I think you like it because you like it...I know that's circular reasoning, but sometimes there isn't a better explanation other than you like the way it feels to do a certain thing. I've been in IT, specifically support and operations, for my entire career, and it's akin to that, or many other "service" roles - you can be proud of the contributions you can make to an organization (or team), but a lot of times it's thankless.

I'm my company's network ops manager, and while I get plenty of thanks and praise my boss and colleagues I work with directly, a lot of people just don't know what I do. When things are working - "What is IT doing?" When things aren't working - "What is IT doing?"

even if I am carrying the whole team

This is not good thinking, and ego is something that's very easy for IT folks to fall into as well. People can't do their jobs without the work my team and I put in to keep the network running smoothly, resolve support tickets in a timely fashion, and generally "keep the lights on." In a sense we carry them - they can't do their jobs without us. But the other side of that is we have no job without them. Same thing in League - jungler is just as much a support role as Support, and nobody "carries" an entire game, not even the "carry" positions. The person with the best KDA isn't necessarily carrying. It's very hard to win as 4 people, as it would be very hard for our company to win without all the individual cogs that make up the machine.

To be more League-specific, non-junglers don't really understand what the jungler is supposed to do, they think "what can the jungler do for ME." That's been the same in every season of League.

Because your name is based on a jungler
