What I've learned playing league

Samus Aran butt··3 votes·3,656 views

Getting upset isn't allowed no matter what happens to you. You're unable to get upset at anything. Team purposefully trolling when they're not in a full 5 man group? Can't prove they are so they're free to go. Teammates punishing each other over petty things? Nah just a new strategy there's no reason to be mad, and if you do get mad you're reported. And you can say things like "Hey we can't understand you we need some communication." or something similar that's a bad report. If you get flamed and reason back against said flame that's also a bad report. Riot doesn't like you getting upset they like you to think of everything at a emotionless thing because the game isn't fun its just a system meant to be addicting which is why people still play it 90% of the time. They don't enjoy it but it gets their dopamine flowing when they're doing good, but not enough to bring actual joy. They want to keep people in that grey little area of emotionless cycling to make sure when they release a new flashy skin that's what you see and end up buying.

You are allowed to be upset while playing League. What you're not allowed to do is inflict the fact that you're upset on anyone else through your chat or other actions.

Try to remember that this is a video game.

Just a little correction.

You can scream, you can yell, you can punch a drywall if youre not feeling well.

Just spare us, players, from seeing your little mental boom in chat...

I've been told to kill myself for thinking defending against an enemy nasus is a good idea. But I can't tell someone that troll picking when not in a 5 man isn't fair for the rest of their team? Because that's what riot games seems to tell me when I report someone for them telling me that and they're still playing. But I get reported the same match and say nothing anywhere near that bad and I'm punished. That makes total sense.

Imperial Pandaa5 votes

Because very, very little is actually troll picking. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it is a troll pick.

Samus Aran butt2 votes

Picking Yuumi support is fine but then going on to leaving bottom lane permanently after the teams adc died once isn't fair for the bottom lane and just forces others who aren't in the special duo to play around them more than what some might be capable of. That is trolling and that is ruining a match for at least 4 others. Picking Hecarim jungle isn't trolling sure but knowing fully well that in a team fight as an engage you have to survive past 2 auto attacks and then refusing to actually attempt to fix said issue because your fun is absolutely only good if you build to be a suicide bomb into the enemy team only to have 0 effect in the end is trolling and ruining the fun for at least 4 others. I can keep going on a whole list of people purposefully trolling and getting to continue doing so constantly no matter what.

NF Remilia5 votes

Actually supports are not adc's babysitters. IgNaR for example hit rank 1 challenger with only roaming. MidBeast spectate one of his games. In 40min game he stood at botlane for 2mins , at other time he was mid or top. Again supports are not meantto sit 24/7 at botlane.

When you stop caring. You will find the game is so much more fun.

I've never been punished as far as I can think of, but people are overly sensitive on both the boards and the game. I do think it's a bit ridiculous you can say absolutely nothing in the chat and then get a valid report for "not communicating" with as ridiculous restrictions as there are on chatting. Luckily people don't report for that very often because otherwise it'd be a no win situation for the majority.

I've found that games with these kinds of systems that are heavy handed on the punishments are usually frustrating games in their own right with addictive systems in place. It's best to use them as a casual come and go kind of game instead of making them your every day game.

I'm pretty sure in the Support Singed case, that was considered a "valid report", and when they set the limitations on what IS and what ISN'T off meta, they said you could play off meta, but the "refusing to communicate" report would have more weight. That wasn't in 2014. It may not be a clickable option, but I'm 99.99999% sure that if you report someone for refusing to communicate, it will be considered valid, especially if you play off meta.

The Singed case is more of a gameplay issue.

Oh you can't? Then what's the written portion for? Saying hello? The Singed permaban was not upheld because of mass outrage from the playerbase. They clearly mentioned communication being important and that reports for not communicating being valid. They even made a big Ask Riot section on it iirc.

What is the written portion for? Who is going to read it? The IFS certainly does not. That is likely an old relic from the Tribunal days.

You are moving the goalpost from your original statement now to gameplay issues and not purely a communication one.

I'm not moving the goal post, and the written portion is there for clarity. You click an option, write what they were or weren't doing, and bam. How am I moving the goal post when I said that RIOT MENTIONED IT SPECIFICALLY in the Singed case? They basically said "Not communicating is a valid report, moreso if you're playing off meta because 'players may not understand your intentions'". They also mentioned that if players didn't agree with your intentions, they could report you validly as well. Nothing about my statements bleed into gameplay issues, you're just claiming that because Support Singed was mentioned, but nothing about Support Singed's gameplay was mentioned at all, if you actually read. I only mentioned Riot's responses, you know, the company that made the game.

SSSinged was not permabanned. He was 14-day banned and they didn't remove the punishment after.

His case was lesser of refusing to communicate, but more about "I am going to jam my playstyle down your throat regardless whether you liked it or not".

Which ultimately is a combination of gameplay and communication combined.

"jam my playstyle down your throat whether you like it or not" is kind of silly. No one has control over another person, so they shouldn't need permission to play how they play. I don't remember the guy's name, but originally he was 14 day banned iirc for "refusing to communicate", in which he started typing up how he was going to play in the pre game lobby in order to facilitate communication, then was perma banned after iirc. They removed the permaban though and made a lengthy post because people got up in arms over it because it was an off meta playstyle, there wasn't anything he was doing that was wrong, and Riot said they don't enforce a meta.

The post of all that ruckus was during his 14-day ban. Riot made their off-meta video after support counter jg NuNu got 14-day banned.

AdellaideSkyhart (SSSinged user) was never for permabanned. You can ask him on stream if you want.

That wasn't the name of the guy who I saw posting about being banned that I remember(I could be wrong), but it wasn't a video that I saw, it was an ask Riot or something to that effect, talking about how they didn't want to stifle creativity and whatnot, but people needed to communicate AND ASK THEIR TEAM(well, get their team's permission) if they could play off meta. Point being, you can be reported validly for not communicating, and it wasn't something that ended in 2014 as that was after 2014. Whether he was permabanned or not, does not matter, as that's just nit picking finer details. Which it may have been the Nunu I was thinking of, I could be wrong, but again, still nit picking. What they said does not change because minor details changed.

Kei1432 votes

Support counter Jg NuNu wasn't permabanned either.

I know which post you are referring to. It was a Rengar Jg main who got autofilled support, he asked if he can play Jg and his teammate said no, so he banned by his teammate's hover (Rengar) and then locked in Smite Cleanse Soraka support and didn't go bot lane most of the time.

He tried to claim that he was doing off meta strategies like SSSinged and SctJgNuNu, but he was swiftly smited by WookieeCookie cos they see a pattern of him trolling when Rengar gets banned or he gets autofilled.

That Rengar has since deleted that thread, so it can no longer be found, but I still remember it (and I'm sure a bunch of other regular boards users remember too) cos it was a pretty big deal 3 years ago. It was after SctJgNuNu's ban, after the boards post of Riot updating their disruptive gameplay policy, and it was indeed in the comments of the Ask Riot post, but it was before the "Off-meta video requires more communication" video came out.

I never read any case of any Soraka nor mentioned anything about any Soraka. Either way, my point was specifically that you can be reported and punished for lack of communication, as riot themselves said that you need to communicate your strategy. Luckily people don't often report for this so you can avoid it, but if there was a sudden influx of players who started reporting for it, it could totally be punished. If you admit that riot made videos about that, then you're aware that it's a thing, so trying to derail my comment is unnecessary as you proved it correct.

They cited that Singed for failure to communicate. However, the player communicated very clearly. For this reason and others, the ban was lifted.

As I said to the person who lodged an argument against my original claim however, and as you yourself just mentioned, Riot can punish for "failure to communicate".

To both of you, the support Singed case is not relevant at all to what I said, it was just an example of such a case occurring in which someone was reported for failure to communicate and action was taken, meaning that you CAN report for failure to communicate. We don't need to dig into the support Singed case, or any other off meta cases, the point of my comment was that you CAN be reported for failure to communicate and it DOES have weight, not who the support Singed was or any other such trivial information. That case was just an example.

Thing is... as a result of that case, Riot apparently re-thought their policies. He was also cited for not taking Exhaust as a Support.

I'm not sure that Riot considers "Failure to Communicate" so reprehensible anymore.

(And at times, it feels as though they encourage it.)

I never heard anything about them changing that, for the longest time even after that case I never saw any such thing about failure to communicate not being reportable and they actually mentioned you needed to communicate in their little post after that case. I don't remember the exhaust thing either, because as far as I remember they said they didn't want to force a meta.

They gave three reasons. One of them (maybe even the first one) was failure to take exhaust as a support. The videos documenting the episode are still up on youtube.

If he was banned for "Failure to Communicate", and then they reversed the ban, then that would tend to weaken the charge.

Besides, in the seasons since, Riot has apparently embraced off-meta.

Besides, in the seasons since, Riot has apparently embraced off-meta.

Failure to communicate was only one thing, and again, in the post afterwards they mentioned the need to communicate your pick and even basically asking for permission. Also as someone else said, the person did communicate via a big wall of text copy paste in every lobby before the game started, so that would be the reason for them reversing it, I'd imagine. They don't track lobby chat from what I've always been told so evidence of his streams or videos of him playing was probably the reason the ban was lifted.

Riot has embraced off meta by giving some champions numbers in order to make off meta not feel like trolling to their allies(even if someone can make off meta stuff work without trolling in the first place, and that even leads into those "off meta" builds becoming almost or actually meta. I used to go lethality Eve top before she was killed...ehm…."reworked" and people hated me for it until I got first blood and shit on my enemy laners). If they were embracing off meta in pro play, it would be because their teammates don't argue about their picks, they work around them, something solo queue players do not do.

Eh... All a report does is to flag the system to review the game. The toxicity score returned from the review and it is also possible for the system to return a toxicity score of 0 if there was no toxicity found within the game.

Reports alone do nothing when you've done nothing wrong.

I try to not be an asshole but I can say something such as "hey (Champion A) is going to be scaling super hard would a gank be ok?" and get just practically spit on for suggesting anything like that. I will be called trash bad garbage and every other name under the sun and those people go about their days still untouched by any punishment. I defend myself in an argument about me trying to defend rather than fighting a bad fight and I get told to literally off myself. And that's okay, that is fine they will go onto the next game. Most likely say the same thing if its a bad match again and continue on for what seems like indefinitely. I just get told I'm not allowed to defend myself when I see that. That seems lop sided as can be.
