Because that's not how the system works. If you are consistently negative and people are reporting you for it you can get punished. Calling to mass report a player is punishable since it considered harassment, for instance. Arguing with your team and calling people pathetic etc. just creates a negative environment or perpetuates one, so just mute and report them. Focus on the game at hand.

The simple reason is you didn't use the mute button and decided to fight fire with fire. Riot doesn't care who started it, they only care about what got burned.

If you want a not so simple reason I can go through and quote every line of text that was worth a report, but if you honestly don't know which ones those are already you should be reading the rules and guidelines, not posting on the boards about your punishment.

Use this as a reality check that the system gives no fucks if you aren't outright an asshole and are only just negative, don't argue with people in game.
