Standing up for yourself in-game

Yunaiv·12/15/2016, 12:02:18 PM·1 votes·485 views

I recently got chat banned for standing up for myself in the post-game chat. I cannot stand sitting there taking it when nothing wrong and to get ping spammed on your character all game even if you /ignore. I didn't even use profanity I just gave my opinion after playing my best and left.

Anyone else have similar experience? Do I need to bend over and take it, letting all this cancer walk all over me and not stand up to them?

Did you actually stand up for yourself, or just lowered yourself to their level thereby proving you were no better?

Chat logs.

There's a difference between standing up for yourself, and dropping to their levels. If you're -that- bothered and unable to just ignore it, then yes, the problem is yours, sadly. I'm not saying they've done nothing wrong, but in being an adult, you have to take crap and just shrug it off. It's the inevitability of being a parent, you have to take a lot of crap from your kids and you can't just holler at them and call them little bleeps that bleep their own bleep bleep bleep.

I mean... you can... but you're doing it wrong...

If you're doing your negativity, or whatever you call it, in post-game only, and barely if talking at all during game, then you have to really stop and consider what you're about to say. "Am I being positive, or at least neutral?" "Is this statement negative, am I calling someone a name?" "Is this passive-aggressive and questionably negative?" In post-game, you have all the time in the world. Just quit the game and leave the post-game chat. As Thumper so eloquently put it, "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

Furthermore, you never get chat-banned for one game... unless you showed extreme negativity or racist remarks. There's a trend when you get chat-banned, usually, so you need to think long and hard on the chat logs you've been provided, and look into what you're doing wrong, not assuming everyone else is wrong. Sometimes, you'll only get a chat log for one game, but I do not believe this to be a very common case.

Mute them to spare yourself.

Report them to spare others.

"Defending" yourself generally just continues the argument and aggravates everyone else on your team who wasn't involved.

Ping-spamming is a pain in the ass though and I still don't understand why we can't mute pings from an individual player.

I'll ask you this,

This person that you're standing up against, are they likely to end up in your games ever again considering the number of players in the game?

The best way to fight a troll is to kill them with kindness or memes. Anything they say, respond with "yes"

The comments on this post make me extremely sad. I don't know when we as a community became so sensitive and spineless that standing up for yourself is considered poor behavior.

I can't believe someone actually thought "Is this passive-aggressive and questionably negative?" is a reasonable thought process that should be followed.

Really? Are we seriously at the point where we need to worry if what we say is QUESTIONABLY negative?

What the hell is going on in this community. Riot is turning us all into the entitled brats you see nonstop on Tumblr.

At what point are we going to just say "Alright this is ridiculous, lets have some common sense"

Why do you feel the need to talk back? You'll most likely never see them again, and they'll forget about you by tomorrow. You're just risking a ban because you probably said some pretty salty or nasty stuff.

Why bother trying to talk to and explain yourself to trolls? Just leave and you wont need to defend yourself. Thats like saying if someone tried to bully you at school. You have the option to walk away, or play their game of "lets see how much i can tilt them"
