The Penalty System Is Too Sensitive to False Reports

I know these threads tend to get automatically downvoted and it's usually justified but problems with the system should not be ignored. I was at level 2 honor before this and tended to get honor most games. It's my first restriction and this game is a case of punishing the victim due to the reports of spiteful toxic players.

I was harassed by several players despite not provoking anyone (they're mostly just mad that they're all losing so they choose to target me). There were also constant spam pings for ganks or ? pings where I die. It's unfortunate that the context of the chat is absent because, like all communication, it loses most of its meaning when it seems a person is just talking to himself and is responding to questions/comments no one else can see. It makes said player appear crazy or angry and that's why such a system is never applied in a court of law. It creates a negative impression of the person under investigation and it's almost impossible for someone to judge it objectively (even though most people think they can, psychology has proven it isn't the case). Imagine if a comedian skipped all the replies in his joke and no one ever laughed. Even reading my own chat, I can see how insanely misleading it is. Many of the statements are separated by several minutes and with many other comments in between. However, it seems as if I'm just constantly talking without interruption. For example:

ToddlerPacifier: cry more ToddlerPacifier: renekton is super toxic

This appears like it was typed one after the other when in fact the second statement follows someone else's comment. The lack of timestamps or any sort of context creates a system in which an external observer cannot accurately assess the situation and has to make many assumptions, which due to the bias created by the system against the person under investigation through how everything is presented, will surely not lead to the most favorable circumstances.

I merely explained the situation and I don't think I was out of line. For example, when I type "renekton you lost lane without interference stfu", it was after several minutes of him blaming me for everything and raging at me for being bot instead of camping his lane. I even ganked his lane early but it turned out Rek'Sai was there so nothing happened for either Jungler and Top was left alone by both of us after that. The statement is perfectly truthful and if everyone who types "stfu" to a toxic player spouting endless nonsense deserves a chat restriction, 90% of the player base would be punished. The reason I was punished was not mainly because of what I typed. It was because I responded to the harassment and did not just accept it. My ammunition was not empty insults or retaliatory name-calling. Instead, I told him what the reality of the situation was and of course, an unfavorable reality will make someone way more angry than any insult because it touches upon something they can't deny. Thus, I get reported by him as well as others like him and now I'm the one paying the price for their behavior (I didn't get a notification of any punishments after I reported Bard and Renekton). I didn't say much about Bard but he wasn't any better than Renekton. He was mostly spamming "Mundo so bad" and "0 3" etc. This has eroded all my trust in the system.

I'd contact support but I haven't heard of them ever looking at a case such as this objectively or even considering the possibility that it was an unjust punishment. This is mainly written for informative purposes so that other innocent players don't get punished and the system can be fixed. The truth is that there's a lof of evidence reports play a bigger role than pretty much any other factor (it's how the Singed Support player got nearly banned) besides certain phrases and words deemed unacceptable. It's essentially mob justice with no chance for a defense and little regard for the truth as long as someone doesn't like you.

Here's the chat log (spelling errors like "o na" instead of "on a" were corrected for clarity but NOTHING else was changed and I received no other log):

Game 1 ToddlerPacifier: it's a refillable ToddlerPacifier: he's still camping top lol ToddlerPacifier: you guys are too low to gank for ToddlerPacifier: would just be a double ToddlerPacifier: wtf ToddlerPacifier: is that damage?!? ToddlerPacifier: that's soooo broken ToddlerPacifier: I have armor runes, popped ult., and smited him ToddlerPacifier: how is that even remotely balanced? ToddlerPacifier: so why do we not ban him? First of all, you type a lot. While that's not in and of itself an issue, and can be beneficial, your typing is almost all negative and combative. You spend a lot of time talking about how your team lost their lanes, how they're toxic, etc.

Saying your team is clueless, having long drawn out discussions about if/why they're to blame for things? Not welcome in chat. Spend the chat talking about your next steps to win the game, not about the past/who's to blame for the past. Trust me, if someone's doing bad in the game, they very likely know. If they're the reason the game wasn't ff@20 for the other team, trust me, they know. Reminding them constantly isn't helping anyone.

Personally, I think this punishment was justified - it was only a minor punishment and you have a chance to improve.

I've played this game for 5 years and have yet to be hit up with a single warning, so I don't particularly agree.

You rant and confront people too much from what I see in that chat log, so the reports would slowly but gradually build up. That kind of lowkey animosity and complaining brings the team's morale down, people don't like that.

What you just described is Garfield minus Garfield

You are responsible for only your chat, no one else's. That's why you're only given your chat.

I notice you didn't edit the messages to say if they were in all chat or not.

ToddlerPacifier: wtf ToddlerPacifier: is that damage?!?

I would like to point out that you put these messages together yourself and didn't edit them into one sentence. I notice a lot of players get very sentimental with pushing that enter button when they are raging. You should avoid that as the extra chat messages can make it hard for allies to tell what's going on.

Riot has said his 100x already. It 100% does not matter what anyone else in a game does. Riot punishes based on your actions and your actions alone. They don't give a flying f*ck about context in a game where muting is available.
