Experiences in Returning to Ranked
Hey all,
I've been around awhile, never very good, and mostly just played ARAMs. Over the last two weeks or so I decided to get back into ranked. I had already been placed and was sitting in Bronze. I fairly quickly got to Bronze I and have now done two separate promo series to try and get out of Bronze.
I won a couple in a row leading up to my first promo series and the first two in the series itself. I wasn't playing great but wasn't costing us the game either. In a few, if not most, of these promo games I was playing in games where I was the only one below Silver 3. In a couple of those matches there were other lanes that got fed and was tough to come back from.
After losing that series, I won my next game and immediately got back into the promo series with the automatic first win. Lost first game, again with a lane getting super fed. Second game, again. I played poorly and there was a lot of in-fighting that probably hurt us in the end. I changed champions for the next game and was able to carry with the help of our Cho as I went 16/5/3. Great! 2-2 just need to win the next one. Load in, Malphite top has Teleport Ignite and dies twice within the first couple minutes. Immediately DC's and doesn't come back. We tried pretty hard to win this one but in the end it was just too tough in a 4v5 against a Fiora so I lost the promo series again.
I could have played better in all of these games and this isn't me trying to say I deserve to be higher than I am. I don't. I suck mechanically and my decision making is questionable at most... all? times.
However, this post is to say that throughout the course of the Promo Adventures out of Bronze, I have met most of the types of players that Player Behavior says tilts them to most: I've had non-intentional feeders, flamers, intentional feeders, afk, the "its never my fault" players, the ping spammers, the general baddies (its bronze. I dont have a problem with it but PB seems to)."
And you know what? I'm fine. I'm not mad. I'm not raging. I'm still enjoying the game. At the end of the day, League of Legends is a game or form of entertainment. If you are no longer having fun or it is causing you noticeable distress, take a break. If you want to keep playing, don't internalize what is out of your control. Just focus on what you can do better. You lost your promo's because of an afk? Learn from it and move on. If you deserved the chance to move up, you'll get back there anyways. Keep practicing new things in the meantime. Flamers? Mute and keep playing. Don't jump in and make things worse because that just worsens your own mentality and distracts you from actually playing the game.
That's really all. Just realize it's a game guys, even in ranked. Take a break when needed and make sure you focus on yourself instead of taking things out of your control personally.
Best of luck and keep having fun!
