The R-word should be added to the Language Filter

R-word (retard) is just as offensive and derogatory as the n-word. The R-word is another form of hate speech towards the disabled and its' use is prolific in the chat. It and all it's alternative forms of spelling should be added to the Language Filter.

Personally I tend to agree (although I'm not sure it's AS offensive, as it does have legitimate, non-archaic uses that other slurs do not usually possess -- the musical use, for example, or specifically talking about slowing motion), and I do tend to report for it.

Actually it because of there origins why one is hate speech and one is not. Retard means to slow or impede. Now how it came to mean a mentality handicapped person is because the person had developed knowledge at a slower rate. Now years later its used as an insult. N**** comes from the german word neggar which means ploughman not negro which is used in multiple languages to mean the color black. Since most slaves in the US were used for farming and ploughman means farmer the term was used and eventually changed to the modern english spelling.

While it may not currently be in the language filter, it does appear to have been the trigger for punishments issued via the Instant Feedback System. Many people share your opinion of it being a form of hate speech, and it also tends to be judged rather harshly by players here on the Boards when reviewing Reform Cards and chat logs.

All good points you guys made and it is good to hear the Feedback System seems to be working. I think whether the n-word is worse than r-word depends on the context of who that word is directed against. In my mind they are both equally offensive. The N-word is used in rap/hip-hop music and generally seen as a word that has been taken back by the black community. That doesn't mean it is not hate speech if a white person were to use at a black person. Same for the R-word. I don't see how the origins of the word decides whether or not a word is hate speech. It's a interesting theory and I'm not saying it's wrong, but how is a word for a plowman considered hate speech? In my opinion it's not except in the context it has been used.

Just one more thing I'd like to point out is that language filter blocks the word ass a word that many would consider less offensive than the r-word. This just seems like a innocent oversight on the part of Riot, and that is why I made this thread. If any of you feel this is important please hit up-vote button and let Riot know. Thanks.
