Muting Players

This is not meant to be an especially serious discussion (though I suppose it depends on ones view of what may be seen as serious), neither a debate. All opinions matter, none are right or wrong.

So, what is your guys' opinions on muting players, both ally and enemy? It's a feature I personally love, since it allows me to avoid eye contact with those that abate their words to lure people into their troll/rage habit. The reason I bring this up, is I feel like many seem to use this feature less for its intended purpose, and abuse it more so to create a personal bubble, where no words can penetrate their world where everything is ok.

Do you guys feel like there's a point where even the mute feature can give reason to report someone? I can understand why some people would use it pre-preemptively, or would feel like they are being driven to a point where it'd be better to mute than to risk. But there have been a handful of games where the slightest disagreement on this or that, leads to the person either muting myself, another player, or the entire team. This urks me due to the fact that this is an intentional lack of communication with the team, making them no better than someone who completely ignores the chat all together. I've not yet reported someone for this type of behavior (that I recall), due to the unusual condition of this sort of case. But something has to give. Trouble is, the reasons any one person is reported for, seems to vastly vary from something obvious terrible, to the smallest insult. Given how sensitive this subject could become, do you think we're at that point where this could be a credible reason to report a player, if the situation permits? Something has to give.

If nothing else, what are your guys' thoughts on the social mechanic as a whole?

It's a game feature... it'd be like... ASHE USED THEIR R!!! Report them for R use!

It's absurd to think you can be reported for using a feature of the game. Even telling someone that you're muting them. [zombie-brand-facepalm]

Chat should just have the option to be disabled. It's unnecessary and is rarely used for anything other than a place to flame or for people to send "i love you letters" to themselves.

All players have to be muted in a game as I still hear 3rd hand accounts of how much I suck due to teammates flaming over all chat.

According to Riot and the support team member I've been dealing with, muting people is toxic to the community so you should just sit there and be verbally abused all game. Really makes you wonder why they removed "refusal to communicate" from the report form if they feel that way. It's fine though, they'll still ban your account and help you make another one to spend money on after you take unending abuse and finally start to type back at them.
