Am I getting too old for league?

I don't get the memes. I don't get the trends. WTF why are we fortnite dancing in league of legends? I dont enjoy being called a boomer. my grandfather was a boomer. if people are going to insult me they should at least be accurate. kids piss me off daily - they're doing it on purpose.

i was under the impression that the community had gotten older, but perhaps i'm the only one still playing? because the last couple of matches i've been in the mentality felt LOW. like we're talking below sea level. i was playing with delvers from the lost city of atlantis on a cerebral plane. ffs. which is a contradiction since atlanteans were supposed to be highly intelligent.

it's not good for my mental well being. so... i've started taking longer breaks from the game. is it pre-season? is it just that time of the year for the community? is it maybelline? idk.

the community feels MORE antagonistic and MORE aggressive. trolls are one thing. feeders are another, but what really REALLY ruins games for me? is when people start threatening me with assault and abusing me with aggressive language. because now i have to mute people or argue with them. and as soon as i do that i know communication has broken down and now our chances of winning are guaranteed to be lower. my position on the team is less than a member and depending on my role it could 20 or more minutes of wandering around feeling like i'm unwanted.

AND THAT SHIT ISN'T FUN.

if it was just one person? okay. maybe i can work with the others, but it's never just 1. it's always 2. in ranked mode it's always 2 people who are caught up in themselves and just there to make each other look good. and as soon as 2 people start in on someone the rest of the team follows because weak willed humans often tend to go with the majority.

it's a proven psychological phenomenon that happens all the time and has been researched to the point of being fact. humans who are put into a position with no alternatives begin to act out that position. humans who are given power and authority will abuse that authority. humans will ignore logic and reasoning to be part of the crowd. humans trust authority figures to guide them. I can post the psychology experiments that prove this if need be, but it's kind of sad really that humans do not think for themselves and the ones that do are excommunicated.

i don't think there has ever been a time in league's life where it WASNT this way, but it definitely feels like a constant witch hunt is going on and accounts are being burned daily. i haven't been a new player in a long time and quite frankly i don't want to be.

does anyone else feel this way?

We've already gotten cases of people punished for using the ok boomer phrase. Insults, dismissiveness and demeanors against any age group is still harassment.

The same goes for "ok kid" phrases.

There are stupid people of every age bracket. I've been at my current company since 2002, right out of college. Never thought I'd be a lifer, but here I am. I'm in IT, I get paid decent, don't have to work 80 hour weeks, and I don't have to wear a tie. I still like it there. In my time, I've seen people come and go through the company who make me wonder, "How, being so stupid, did you manage to survive past the age of 10?" And I've thought that about people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. Stupidity doesn't discriminate on age.

Those of us who are fast approaching being the subject of the 40-year-old boomer meme have been outgrowing games since we were kids in the early 80s, it just happens. I don't play the same games I played when I was 10, 15, 20, or 30. Personally, I think the meme is hilarious and I encourage my 20-something-year-old friends to use it liberally. They'll be boomers of their own one day.

Personally, I just mute everyone and play the game since I got back to it. Because this nonsense happens half the time or more. Its better for one's mental health to simply mute everyone and not give them a chance to spout rubbish.

I mean the whole "ok boomer" thing literally ended up a meme... Don't let things like that get to you because then you know people will only want to say it to you more. It's funny though because sometimes they will take it too far and you get a free chance to report them which tends to make up for the way they acted all game.

Years ago, I played a game called Unreal Tournament 2004 (UT2004 or UT2k4). I was MUCH younger than the average age of the people I played with (most were in there 50s or 60s during that time). You are never too old for a game.

A lot of it is just in general. Idk how old you are, but around 28 for me I really started feeling out of touch. Now at 33 I cringe daily at the shit youth does lol. I think it happens to every generation. Your parents probably went through the same thing. These trends and the vocabulary of teens-young adults these days are very frustrating to live with. It goes way beyond league.

Boomer is a state of mind, most of the time when people use the insult boomer its because they are insulting you for not falling withing a shared experience usually associated with youth. The community on the other hand has gotten worse in terms of trolling toxicity afking etc. I don't think its because of age or anything, its much more likely a result of riot ignoring a lot of problems in the game. Because of the worse overall experience in damage, community, balanced etc. bad behavior festers because this game is getting progressively less fun. A lot of people who play this game a lot aren't enjoying it anymore and don't know what to do about it because of the lack of democracy when it comes to the game. The playerbase doesn't feel included in a lot of changes, and many changes alienate players. Its a positive feedback loop where the community gets worse, the game gets worse, and in turn the community keeps getting worse.

Too old. LoL is for fortnitelords who have a lot of time to waste in autolost games. Since you are not allowed to flame them, the best use of your time is to watch some YouTube in the corner of your screen with PotPlayer and let them ree alone.

I had a Vayne in a recent game that was giving up and calling the team useless, despite a really close score line. Surprisingly, he was the only one that was greifing. Spammed surrenders, but 1/4 votes were really satisfying. I tried to be encouraging, but no use. We ended up winning, and they later apologized.

Always a little discouraging when players are toxic, but I think the positive players more than balance out negative players in the community.
