Ruined Someone's Day Because I Wouldn't Surrender?

People are strange.

I just had a ranked game where I was playing Sivir ADC. I was at 94 lp going into the game, so I was even more anxious about the game going well than I normally am. I generally don't like to surrender, but I'm not totally against it like some people are. Often if I feel like a game just isn't going to go my way without some kind of miraculous act of God, I will throw my vote to surrender. If I'm in or almost in my promos though, I'm inclined to hold out even for that 1% chance.

The teams are: Enemy: Darius, Ekko, Zed, Jhin, Thresh Mine: Yasuo, Kayn (red), Ahri, Sivir (me), and Bard

Early game bot is pretty well matched, and they're arguably even doing a bit better. Mid seems pretty evenly matched as well, but top gets killed early. From that point on, he was toxic af. I've played with some cool Yasuo players, but this guy lived up to the toxic meme. He was trash talking the rest of our team the entire game, never grouped, and generally had a terrible attitude. Late game he actually got some towers and kills through split pushing, so thankfully he didn't totally give up, but his attitude was AWFUL.

Despite top losing pretty hard (lost two turrets before any others fell), we were ahead or even for the entire game. I ended up getting super fed on Sivir and could 1v2 anyone on their team if I spellshielded their CC and had a couple of close 1v3 situations. My Bard support was actually incredible and had some super sick ults. Even so, pretty early on in the game, our Ahri mid kept asking that we just surrender and let the enemy team win. When we asked why, she said she didn't want to play anymore (presumably because she and Yasuo were not getting along). I explained that I was almost in my promos and there was no way I would surrender when we were ahead. She started trash talking the team and cussing us out, and would get progressively angrier with each failed surrender vote. During the match I refrained from saying much because I was getting frustrated and I figured it was better to just focus on playing well and not make the others any angrier than they already were.

In the end, we actually one pretty soundly (I guess I owe Ahri and Yasuo for not just going afk or something), but in the post game lobby I had a weak moment and typed "holy toxic team batman." Then this exchange happened:

Ahri: wtf Ahri: is ur problem Ahri: why wouldnt you just ff me: We won Ahri: *********** Me: Why would I have surrendered???? Me: I'm now in promos. Ahri: pos Me: ? Ahri: I'm pissed Me: I am too Me; You and Yas made that game miserable Ahri: yeah you did Me: What did I do? Ahri: wouldnt surrender Ahri left lobby

I promise I didn't call anyone names beyond saying Yasuo was toxic and asking the enemy team to report him. I'm not a great League player, but I do pride myself on being a non toxic one, and if I say something critical of someone it is either because I'm providing a recommendation on how they could have done something differently or because I'm asking the enemy team to report another player for bad behavior. As far as I can tell, the only reason Ahri was ticked with me was because we didn't surrender. The only thing I can guess is that she was so ticked with Yasuo that she'd rather the other four of us lose than him win? It just didn't make sense to me. They weren't even playing horrendously. They had some questionable pushes without vision but ended up going 7/10/8 (so died a fair amount by didn't just totally throw).

I get frustrated with the game and other players sometimes too. Probably more often then I should, tbh, but I'll never understand just how absurdly angry people get with other players in the game. Wanting to sabotage yourself and three other people who've done nothing against you just to try and spite someone with a temper and a bad mouth seems so depressingly petty to me.

shrugs

Random facts from the game to close out: Gold difference was never more than 4k in either team's favor. Biggest gold lead the enemy team got was 2.5k at 11 minutes. Darius destroyed both our top lane turrets before 14 minutes. I was one auto away from a penta, but I suck at attack moving so I missed it. :(

You already know this - ignore these people and don't surrender ranked matches. Some people wonder why they can't climb, and when you check their match history, half of their games end before 30 minutes. That person was miserable before the game even started, not because you wanted to play it out.

You get all kinds in league.

A while back, I had a team in which every lane was doing relatively well. We made some mistakes, but not many. The enemy team got to our mid inhibitor turret, but that was it.

But chat was basically our team getting after each other about what, I can't remember. So, I turned around and said something along the lines of 'It's obvious we don't like each other; so, how about we just win this match and be done with it so we don't have to put up with each other anymore after that?' The team agreed to shut up and we all put our differences aside long enough to end the game.

We won, no honors were given, and we all went our separate ways.

Tell the moron to have his pissing match with whoever after the game lol. Above all though, probably just ignoring them is best.
