Hello

I read this post about this guy that plays nunu support with smite and got banned for it. https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/FrILlWp7-14-day-ban-because-playing-nunu-support-with-smite-is-stealing-other-peoples-roles

In this post riot stated this:

"If a player is consistently forcing “their vision” on the rest of the team and refusing to adapt to their needs we reserve the right to intervene. That’s what happened here (and before with the Singed case); players cried out how terrible the experience was for them and we intervened."

So basicly when you create a unfun experience for other players they can intervene. So that is what they did. As we all know when you play ranked and someone picks an off meta pick they already create a terrible experience for players who only want the best teamcomp possible aka meta champions! So if we actually start reporting ppl for playing off meta will it result in a ban?

This goes even further: what if we as community decide that one champion is no fun to play with? For example Yasuo, What if the whole community starts to report players that play yasuo cuz he creates a 'terrible' experience for players on their team and other team? Would it end up banning every yasuo player? lol

TL;DR The only reason off meta isn't getting ppl banned is cuz riot said they don't ban for it! So ppl don't report for off meta picks or rarely because they 'know' it won't have any effect! But what if ppl actually start reporting for it? What happens then? Will we see ppl get banned for playing a champion that creates a 'terrible' experience? Like this nunu smite support?! Or for example yasuo? (hated by alot of players in their team and enemy team)

This got me thinking on the ban system, i hope it raises some questions for you and riot!

Thanks

It's not black and white.

There's the optimum choice for a role (say, champ has 52% or higher win rate in that role).

There's a decent choice for the role (~50% winrate).

Then there is a suboptimal choice but if you're really good you can make it work (~45% winrate).

Finally, there is outright trolling which is picking a champ who is obviously terrible for that role and would have something like a 40% winrate or lower. No reason to pick that champ besides intentionally harming the quality of game for your teammates.

That's not playing off meta, that's purely TROLLING your adc, because if you have a non-agreeing adc then he's left alone in the lane a lot of times, probably you didn't use wards or help him in any way, summing all up you had an adc that had to play completely differently from his standards and was of course tilted by that. You can do that as long as you duo-queue with a willing adc. If your adc is not so duttile, he may end up with extreme frustration and that's what Riot wants to avoid.

Off-meta is going for instance Cho'Gath supp, to clear out: not the most used support, but can work well to chain cc with your adc. Instead, playing Bard with smite, as much as he is a support mainly, but playing to invade only their jungle, can be bannable even if it's a "meta" support.

Hope it's clear.
