A guide to Player Behavior & Moderation
I'm going to be writing a guide here that should explain a lot of things on the Player Behavior and Moderation boards that many posters may not know about, so before you go posting, read here to lessen the work of the Arbiters, Mods, etc so they don't have to check as much stuff. Of course, if your question did not get answered and it's a small question, you can always make a new topic or post it here so I or another more educated source can help you.
Alright, so after looking at all the posts from the past few days, I've noticed a common theme throughout half, if not most of the posts.
A lot of people tend to flame other people for flaming them, and then ask how they can stop doing that or ask why they were banned for doing so.
So here are Boompenguins' tips on how to deal with trolls/toxic players.
-
Don't flame them back! This is the most important thing. A. How do I not flame them back? It's just human nature to retaliate when insulted to after all! Well, there's a few simple tips that I have for you. - Mute the flamers immediately, there's no reason that they should tilt you/ be the reason that you get punished. If you can't see what they're saying about you, then you won't have to flame them back! If they spam ping you, then set your ping volume to 0 or mute the game, and hopefully they stop soon. Of course, if they don't stop, then there's nothing you can do about that, unfortunately, besides for reporting them for harassment at the end of the game.

Try not to get tilted! A. Being tilted from someone else is one of the worst things that can happen to you. It causes you to be aggravated, play worse, and you could be provoked from it. If you find that you are getting tilted from someone, don't worry! Just Mute the game, Mute the player, and Report the player! After the game, take a little break. Maybe for 30 minutes you can go on Facebook, talk with some friends, get some food, take a shower or something. During the break, try not to think about what happened the previous game, just let it go! Once you get back from the break, you should feel a lot more refreshed. If you don't feel better, DON'T START A NEW GAME! It will just hurt you even further.
-
Do not int! A. There is no such thing as constructive inting (hint hint)! If you are just at the point where you are so angry that you want to just give up or leave the game, please don't! If it's one person that's ruining the fun for you, or even 8 people (Hopefully it's not everyone), if you int or leave the game, you are ruining the fun for at least one person! I'm sure you all have played in a game where you are on the verge of a comeback, but a toxic player makes another teammate leave the game! Imagine how terrible that feels, being so close to victory but having your dreams shut down by just one person. Don't feed or leave the game as a lesson to someone else, just remember the MMR system, Mute the player, Mute the game, and Report the player.
-
Don't forget to report the toxic/troll players! A. Riot actually does stuff with the reports that you give them! Trust me! Reporting the player will make the community just one bit better for everyone!
Now, as a general review of how to deal with toxic players, remember MMR Mute the player Mute the game Report the player.
This will help you from not flaming others!
Common Misconceptions
Here are some quick tips on some things that people may think are true, but are actually the other way around!
- Riot doesn't do anything with my reports! I haven't gotten a single punishment notification yet! Well, don't worry! Riot and the IFS (Instant feedback system) actually do put a lot of work into player moderation! People regularly get banned, and don't get discouraged if they aren't banned after a day, or even a week, because if they continue their negative behavior, the punishment hammer will come down swift and brutally. Additionally, the punishment notifications are only for the last report that finally tips the scales of justice, all previous reports do not receive one, unfortunately. So essentially, your report will help the player get punished, but you will not receive a notification every time!
- They should bring back the tribunal, IFS sucks! Instant Feedback is actually considerably better than the tribunal for many reasons. Mainly, it's due to the fact that the IFS is substantially faster than the tribunal, since it is sorta "instant". Additionally, the IFS doesn't make mistakes very often, just slightly more than the tribunal, but if you submit a ticket to RIot, they should be able to work it out with you in the case of an unfair punishment.
- I got reported and punished because a 4 man premade reported me! The amount of reports has nothing to do with you getting punished, just one report is all it takes for a game to be flagged and sent to Riot/IFS for review. If you were punished, it should be because you broke the summoners code in one way or another, and if it is unjust, then send a ticket to Riot and they will be able to work it out with you.
- My friend keeps reporting me for no reason! Don't worry! You wont get banned for this if you truly did nothing wrong, and the reports from him will be dismissed as false reporting and he could be the one that gets punished! Additionally, I'm not sure if this is still in play or not, but if you report someone falsely too many times, I'm pretty sure it "ends" the reports from your account, which means that none of the reports from that account actually get recieved by the computer, but this only occurs when you report falsely too many times.
- How come I got reported and punished because I flamed back someone that was flaming me? Firstly, you should read the above tips if you haven't to prevent this from happening! Additionally, just because you were not the one that started the war, it doesn't mean you shouldn't be responsible for the actions that you created during the war, for example. Both of you will be punished according to how toxic each player was.
- Riot doesn't care about their player base! I'm going to another game! [Insert lots of profanity and why they got banned for toxicity for no reason. Also enter how long they've been playing and how much money they've spent on the game]. First of all, adding so much toxicity to the post isn't exactly helping your case. Second of all, Riot does care about their playerbase. Third of all,
please do leave!(Ok thats mean but seriously). You aren't exactly making everyone miss you by posting so much toxic content.
Alright, if anyone else has any questions that I haven't answered feel free to make your own post about it or comment it here.
And don't forget.
Mute the Player Mute the Game Report the Player MMR
Hope this helps!

(I will update the post regularly when new questions are asked/ I have more tips to add to my list, so hopefully this post doesn't fail and people actually do read it and it doesn't just get lost in the player behavior and moderation forums)
