AFK and Leaverbuster
Players going AFK is a problem since I started League in S7. It literally loses you the game, and is extremely mildly punished.
At first I thought, it's just happening from time to time, and kept up the positive attitude. After some more bad experiences with suddenly absent players, I got so upset that I eventually opened up several threads on the boards about it, always being downtalked to the point that moderators told me to not open any more threads about it. Which was kind of ironic, because they expect me to cope with AFK players, but on the other hand complain about when I carry these issues to them.
I then went a little rogue, created a second account and tested out the Leaverbuster system a bit (yes, I switched to the dark side, but please forgive me for my noble intention and stuff). Turns out, you can be AFK for a laughable amount of games without any serious punishment. At worst you get a 15 min Leaverbuster delay, which you can easily dodge by watching a YouTube video or two while queueing.
But back to topic. I left LoL some time at S8, and came back in S9 for a sneak peek. And there you are, the problem still exists. And I am still wondering why nobody does something against it.
"Oh, but everyone can have a disconnect or a personal emergency!" - That is true, but I am not talking about single incidents. You should get like one free AFK incident per split, and after that, you should be harshly punished for any further occurences. And we don't talk about "wait a little longer to queue" but more like "get banned for a week and/or excluded from missions etc.". Another interesting option would be to publicly show the "AFK ratio" of a player just to call their attitude out.
- "but my internet is always so bad lol dont blame me bro" - If you connection is shit, don't play co-op online games. You ruin the fun for others.
- "but my mom called me for dinner so i had to leave" - If you know there's an appointment ahead, dont queue. God, how often did I read "pls finish I have to leave in 10 mins". I have no words for this.
- "but there was an emergency and i had to leave" - Yes, okay, here is your one-per-split get out of jail free card. If it happens more frequently, don't play League.
- "but i had an unexpected disconnect / client crash, which happens like once in a year" - See above. It's fine, if it's that rare.
Now go downvote me again. The game has not evolved since S7, so why should the community have. But well, at least I tried.
