Is League a competitive game?

To be competitive as google states is to be ruthless, merciless, aggressive and fierce these are just a few synonyms provided by our lovely google search. Can we do or act any of these in game of league? No, I mean you can but not without punishment and severe punishment including the permanent ban of your account.

Riot please stop feeling sorry for all these sensitive players complaining about games where they play horribly and get flamed by others, it is only natural! The history of sports and games all those competitively by nature always included some format of being aggressive, ruthless and such and yes that involves acting in a manner that would bring some peers feeling a little bit on the down side. SO WHAT? This is the internet and league of legends is an online competitive game.

It's gotten so bad to the point that anyone, even trolls can feed in games or just play poorly on purpose and they could use any excuse because riot justifies it when they are flamed. THAT IS NOT FAIR AND just laughable.

Being competitive does not mean being an asshole. The game is competitive. You should be ruthless in trying to win the game. You should not be an asshole to your teammates.

Oh, and no, sports don't have people flaming "bad" teammates. Go try it at your local rec center and see how fast they kick you out.

you're comparing the most played game online in the world to a local rec center? that is an unfair judgement you should compare it to professional sports where they live to talk shit. League of legends has reached the status a long time ago has it not? don't give me some bullshit as how fast i get kicked out of a local rec center, laughable again man.

No. Professional League can be compared to professional sports. Last I checked, you weren't on an LCS team. So that doesn't count.

Casual League is compared to casual sports.

once again you're comparing my skills now I don't know why, as i mentioned league as a whole. Let's be honest League's staff members don't listen to their everyday players so let's not compare any situation or anything to casual players like you are saying. They only listen to the players who have recognition and bring league into the public better than casual players. So Don't compare me... You're being biased towards me when you shouldn't be. I posted what i feel is my own opinion because this is what i see from thousands of players alike whether on forums or in-game. Someone has to voice for the casual player because we are the money maker for league.

You aren't a professional player based on skill. That's not what defines professional. Are you on a professional League team and play in professional League tournaments? No?

Then you are a casual player. You are like the person that goes to their local rec center and joins a pickup basketball game or a casual basketball tournament.

People do voice for casual players - and the vast majority of them agree that they don't want toxicity and flaming in the game.

You can actually get fined, benched, fired, and barred from official tournaments for being extremely or consistently abusive in many professional sports (and casual as well, though probably not fired or fined in that case). There's really no reason to be rude to other players, it just makes the experience worse; have fun, but not at the expense of others.

you're right there is no real reason to be rude to others when playing a competitive game. Well so how can you distinguish between players who are generally bad at the game and players who are good trolls? they both could go 0-10 let's say in a game and use excuses to int. How do you justify that because of that individually you have lost that game and maybe spend what 20-60 minutes anywhere wasted? For players especially who take this game seriously. Do you suggest people not to take a game they love and play serious anymore?

I'm a little unsure what that question is for. If you can't tell, you certainly shouldn't default to flaming them all, right?

Let's say you can tell the difference in a particular situation. A player is playing objectively bad and obviously won't listen to anyone on his team about what he should be doing (or is straight up inting):

You've tried asking them nicely to change their gameplay or behavior, and they don't. Do you think insulting, flaming, bossing them around, or calling their behavior out to everyone else repeatedly is going to make them suddenly care and change? Absolutely not, it never will. What it will do is make you a nuisance to the team in chat, distracting and tilting them much the same as the troll doing so intentionally is.

Worst case scenario, and unfortunately the most common one, it's not a troll being treated this way, but just another player doing poorly and is frustrated and tilted. You can't fight fire with fire here, it always makes things worse. Yes you should take the game seriously if you want, but you must realize that adding more negativity into the match has and will never improve the situation; just focus on the game, mute and report them if you must.

you know flaming is bad in both cases

if it was a bad player its worst to flame and tilt them and they dont deserve it for having a bad game

if it was a troll then you just did what you should not do to a troll.

[citation needed] I don't think you're going to hear many professional players tell their teammates that they're terrible and they should kill themselves. Comparing it to pro sports also doesn't really make any sense.

I have never seen mild to moderate flame be punished at a rec center. I don't think I've ever heard severe flame in a rec center.

I've also never seen intentional feeders in a rec center. I think that cuts down the amount and severity of flame dramatically.

Athletes get fined for BM and poor sportsmanship. We are lucky we just get bans. Something can be competitive without hearing about your mother’s secret escapades.

You ever see a Darius go ham and the enemy team scurry as he approaches? Sounds ruthless to me. Or how many times have you played a squishy just to find yourself one shot by a Kha’zix? I would say that is pretty merciless. Or how about a 4 man dive on you when it’s not needed. Feels bad and it can kill your drive to keep going.

What I’m getting at is you can experience a competitive atmosphere without a word even being spoken.

Professional athletes only get fined for bad mouthing people in the organization or the refs. Bad mouthing each other just adds to ratings. During the game they can pretty much say whatever they want to each other. A big reason why rookies have a hard time is because of this psychological shit talk part of the game that they weren't used to in college.

They can get fined for excessive celebrating during the game. Just because something drives ratings doesn’t mean it’s not against the rules.

Point is, there are a set of rules in place and you don’t gotta abide by them but you do have to deal with the consequences.

Which very obviously means you have looked up what "competitive" means when used as an adjective to describe people, which doesn't necessarily apply to games in any meaningful way. Even if you had looked up for synonyms when describing games, synonym dictionaries are pretty useless when trying to make a point, since they list words as long as there is any specific context in which they are synonymous.

By your logic, polarizing filters must be very controversial.

Edit: Let's best not even get started on how "ruthless" is basically an antonym to what is typically considered sportsmanship, which implies that any sport which has unwritten rules about how such sportsmanship should look like would by your definition not be competitive.

Don't worry too much, the sensitive mentality is only present in the NA region. Other regions like EUW/EUNE/Korea etc. have extremely competitive players, and take the game seriously where they don't prioritise their feelings over the game.

well riot does purposely unbalance the game to keep things fresh and it does have autofill so you can't play your best or with the true potential of your teamates. the online video game isn't competitive as can be but the lcs is i guess. it is balanced around lcs anyways
