Just want clarification

In my last game, I forgot to bring smite when I was jungling. So my team mates told me to leave the game so they could do a remake

I left the game, and then my game came back saying that I will not be able to gain loot. What I wan't clarification for is should I have listened to them? And how long will I be punshed for, It didn't say how long I was punished.
